coving & wallpaper

    Hey, about to put up some coving, should we wallpaper before or afterwards?

    Definitly before wallpapering.Imagine trying to strip it in years to come,you will probably pull off coving with paper.

    how about if we are only putting up backing/lining paper? (which will be painted)

    Also, do people advise to strip off everything thats there or what?
    I guess it depends on the condition, but Im not sure whats "ok" condition if you know what I mean...

    Coving/trim/crown moulding ALWAYS first, since it needs to be painted/varnished as well.

    In almost all circumstances, papering is the last job you do...unless it's papering for paint.
    If you intedn to hang fiished paper then finish all your trim work (skirtings, architrave etc) first in gloss or eggshell or whatever. Then hang your paper.
    If it's lining paper like you mentioned then bring the trim up to a point where it'll take one last coat to finish it, hang your lining paper, paint it, then finish your trim.


    [edit] Yeah get as much if not all pre-existing paper off, as it will cause unsightliness in the finished job.
