I'm starting at UCD this year reading Law. I hoping to bag a husband, preferably a rugby playing medic. What are my chances:D ?

That would be dependant upon how aesthetically pleasing you are.

Eh, right, I'm pretty sure teh point of college is to learn, not find a husband. Small point I know.

Em, not sure what the stats are on rugby playing meds though - I only know of a few.

    A few will do!!! :D

Sorry luv, I own them all. You're going to have to find a different college. I suggest Galway. It rains a lot there, so they tend to be taller. Hope that's what you're looking for.

Do law students see a lot of meds anyways??? I'm not sure!

Each year of medicine tends to have 4 or 5 rugby jocks (my class is the exception with about 8). I'd hook you with them but that would be condoning arranged marriage. You should just go into ET some day and "bump" gracefully into every burly guy you see. you're bound to strike it lucky sooner or later.

Eh....there's about 4-5 GUYS in my year (4th med). Not really, but there's literally only 20 Irish guys in out class of 160. And maybe 1 serious rugby player out of that, but hardly a jock

Meds wouldn't see much of law students anyway as Stepherunie says.

If only 20 guys in your class of 160 are actually Irish then where are the others from? I don't plan to go all that way to meet someone from the UK!!

    And what is the ET?

I think Ms Bee it may be an idea to broaden ones options to include people who you may have a greater chance of seeing.

EDIT: ET is Earlsfort Terrace where the meds are based - it's near Stephens Green.

A lot of meds are from Malaysia and America and Canada, only 68 or so Irish people in every year afaik, Jim I'm open to correction on that number!

I think you are right Stepheruni......what do you suggest?

Eh possibly using college for an education.....

And just joining a few socs, possibly the rugby club if you're that into it (we have a womens club i think), getting to know your classmates and enjoying yourself in college without the pressure of finding a guy!

Oh and come to the UCD Boards beers (see knobble a fecker thread) and get to know other people.

You are right, Stepheruni. I was merely thinking about the social aspects of uni life in Ireland. I am not of the build to play rugby myself (I would surely be crushed to death at the bottom of a scrum!) I have especially chosen an Irish uni because I wanted something a bit different to what is available here - which is mostly drink induced whatever.

See the societies sticky thread on this page: it'll give you a run down of a few of the societies in UCD.

My education comment was purely tongue in cheek, socialising is an integral part of any education. ;)

There's plenty of choice for you in terms of socs and clubs check out this link: http://www.ucd.ie/socs.htm for a list of socs in UCD.

And us lot here are a rather cheerful bunch of people most of the time so stick around - you may not find a rugby playing medic but you'll find a good few laughs at least.

And you choose Ireland??? What made you think we'd be any different. We drink more per captia than the UK!

And any guy in college would run a mile at the mention of marriage.

    Thanks Stepheruni.

Well, I had not intended to mention marriage at the first meeting! I just assumed that in Holy Ireland it was more likely that marriage would be likely!

She said rugby med, not legal geek. :p

wait a minute! For medic just read "pulse" (joke :D ). Hullabaloo - do you plan to specialise in medical negligence?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,815 ✭✭✭Vorsprung

Foundie meds are based in Belfield, then 1st Med and 2nd Med are in the Terrace, as well as 3rd Meds for the first term and part of the term (uptil March). But after Christmas we'll all be out there(except people in the hospitals).
A lot of meds are from Malaysia and America and Canada, only 68 or so Irish people in every year afaik, Jim I'm open to correction on that number!

There'd be a few more than that (about 100) but yea there's loads of Malaysians and Canadians!

BTW BusyBee if your that desperate score a med, you should join MedSoc during Freshers Week and find out about some of our events and nights out. I'm sure there's some Med who'd be happy to oblige! :D

Eh no...... not in college - boys run, in fact some of my class run at the idea of being a bf, so they're as commitment phobic over here as anywere else I'd say!

Not a hope! There's no money in that since the PIAB. I'm doing a lot of corporate law. I also wouldn't feel as bad about srewing companies out of their money.

Anyway, I only exist on the internet, as both irlrobins and Stepherunie will confirm.

It is unfortunately true - if only we could get him to appear in real life sometimes *sigh* or hopes and dreams shall continue unrequited..... ;)

Who are you hullaballoo? The man of mystery element is rather intriguing. Are you still at uni?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Says the Steph who has never been at any boards beer I can remember. Although I plan on actually not remembering them this year. Heh. But no carrots this time. Or jingling. Enough said about that.

BB, you could always get yourself a nice, smelly Arts boy. Then you could be the breadwinner and he could engage in philosophical arguments with your friends at important parties.

    I don't think so, Blush.
Just because I will come into a huge trust fund on marriage (hence the enquiry about finding a medic) doesn't mean I would marry a freeloader.

Jangle jangle was sworn never to be mentioned!

And I exist - at least 2 people on boards have met me!

Ms Bee: Find a radiographer - they're fun! (i'm not at all biased in this opinion :p )

Well, if husband hunting is your game then i'm certainly your prey. However, i'm not a medic or a rugby jock, nor do i ever want to be one of those posh la de das. Sorry if i offended anyone!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

Is there some sort of fee involved here? Does Boards get a percentage of your combined earnings if you marry, and some sort of settlement if you split?

A bit twilight zone-y in here tonight.

I'm afraid rugby playing medicine students and doctors are almost a thing of the past. Strange fetist btw. I think Peter Stringer is a doctor and Felipe Contempi is in RCSI
