    Hi.

    Why cant you pick your own one? I dont like any of the ones that are available and I have others I may like to choose from. Is this possible?

    Well, most message boards either don't have any avatars, or else they let you have massive avatars, animated avatars and other crap that generally look like ****.

    We first set a nice low limit on avatar size and flexibility so that boards wouldn't twitch like a junkie in need of a fix.

    We upped the limit and increased the degree of flexibility in choosing one subscribers have as a thank you.

    The general principle though is big avatars suck and letting everyone upload their own makes it hard to block morons sticking half of The Lord of the Rings in animated .gif format up as an avatar.
