A few Gardening / Veggie questions

    Hi all,

    Earlier this year I took it upon myself to try and grow a whole heap of stuff.

    Some did good and some did bad.

    atm I have successfully grown

    Herbs:
    Basil
    Chives
    Parsely
    Coriander

    Veggies:
    Cherry Tomatoes
    Chilli Peppers ( I'm very proud of these babies)
    Peppers
    Spring Onions
    Corn on the Cob

    I just want to know, which of the above will grow again next year of their own accord and which will have to be thrown out and re-planted / sown?

    Hello quazzy.

    Your chives are the only real usable survivor there.

    Your parsley will survive as well but the leaf will be very tough.

    Coriander may return due to seed if temps are high, that is if you let it go to seed.

    Parsley is a biennial, and will reappear in the second year as Irish Gardener said, but I wouldn't bother. Not only are the leaves tougher, but the growth isn't usually as good. Better to just buy new plants every year.

    I love coriander, and mine never gets the chance to go to seed :) BTW don't bother getting coriander seeds from gardening shops, just use the same coriander seeds you buy for culinary use. Cheapest way to get them is to find your local Asian food store and buy a good sized bag of them for a fraction of the cost from a supermarket.

    If you like Mint it is a real garden thug, almost impossible to kill.
    How did you find the sweet corn to grow? did it reach maturity?

    Hey CJ,

    Just going through my old thread and found this.

    SweetCorn didn't mature unfortunatley.

    The best crops for me were Cherry Tomatoes and Chilli Peppers.

    I would definitely recommend both of them.
