Some Memory sellers websites allow you to put in your computer model etc and it lists the ram thats compatible and the cost.
I did this today out of curiosity with www.crucial.com

My parents have an old Gateway Solo 3350 i gave them years ago (VERY THIN laptop!!)
Anyway it has 128mb of ram and i wanted to check and see what type of memory it needed (no intention of buying from them :D).
Anyway it was 144 pin SODIMM and it can take max of 256mb (only 1 slot so single 256 is max).

So anyway i check a laptop from around the same era.. Solo 9500. It lists the exact same memory.. exact same picture, details.. everything but the part number is the same... oh and the price... the Solo 9500 memory is a whopping $34 cheaper... for the same 256mb chip!

    Take a look

Its funny... if you open both up in forefox and switch between the tabs it looks like the same page apart from part number and price of course :D

So watch out on similar websites... always check other models etc and see if the same actual product is cheaper...

By the way i used to work for Gateway... so i knew the memory was the same type and thats why i picked the 9500 to compare with.
