The head of the Judo club is a bess guy and I certainly wouldn't say any of that to him. He's none of the above anyway. That just smacks of misplaced jealousy.

Wow. Ok no, actually they are not all 1st years, a small few are actually in 2nd year.

Yes well maybe some ppl find that look more attractive that the more... how shall I put it, "Scruffy/Casual"(?) look? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that ppl can't dress how they want. You might argue that all ppl who have this kinda hair/clothes etc all look the same, but what about the ppl who dress real scruffy? Don't they all look the same too? I don't mean "scruffy" in an offensive way by the way, I just can't think of a word to describe that kinda look? :p

My thoughts exactly, why are some of you guys so seriously bitter about Arts students? Some ppl have some serious issues here, jeez.

Because they were probably bullied by these so called rugger buggers, and were secretly jealous of their easy confidence with women.

Well my friends are what'd be called "rugger buggers" I guess, and they're all nice ppl. Just because you have a certain look and socialise with certain ppl does not necessarily mean that you're automatically an asshole you know. That seems to be a preconceived notion around here :( Quit judging people so easily.

I love rugby. Anyone gonna hold that against me? And what does that make me then?

But the words "bugger" and "asshole" go together, don't they?

Not in my book they don't, no.

You trying to tell us something here, Spanner ;) You'd be better off trying the GLB forum though.
Well, for me, I'd never really met any so called rugger types before until I came to trinity and then I met a fair few. To be honest they're a good laugh and even if you can't understand where they're coming from (blackrock mostly :D ), its still decent to get to know them because they can open social circles for you that might have been unavailable before. Doesn't mean you have to go around talking and walking like them, thats just childish BUT apparently the impression a lot of the peeps around here have.
College is about mixing and people have said that you'll make friends for life here. I say, just try not to be so linear in your choosing of friends. A bit of variety never hurt anyone.

was it around then that the Trinity section started?

Actually, it was my lame attempt at humour. I come from a rugger school, The 'Nure, though never played beyond house level.

Well I knew them before college from school, and BESS/arts hasn't changed any of them. Ev is right, college is all about meeting and mixing with new ppl. So why the hostility? What's to be afraid of? They don't bit you know!*

I don't think it's the look alone; it's the personality that usually goes with that look. And I'm no Arts-hater, I came very close to doing Arts myself, but I've seen it myself too many times to deny.
Because they were probably bullied by these so called rugger buggers, and were secretly jealous of their easy confidence with women.

Actually, I'm jealous that they have easier courses and less lectures than me, and that they get to do things like English and Music. :D

Heh, I worked with rugger buggers before, and much as I took the piss out of their general Foxrockness, they were actually quite nice folk, and I don't hold anything against them..It's the metrosexuals that annoy me tbh.

Good for you, I'm glad to hear that you're learning something in psychology.

just proven, bugger and asshole DO go together :)

anyway for the record, might as well state that i dont really care about all this which end of college ****e, i just find that the assholes in ESS/Science tend to be not as loud and obnoxious than the assholes in arts, the ones in ESS/science are much more introverted.

I think that the thing is that rugby types are an easy target for pi$$taking. The amount of times I'd see comedians on tv on about "putting heads between legs in rugby" and "gay pile-ups" (scrums) is unreal. They're no different to any other type of athlete...well, apart from a greater propensity for getting langered.
Yanno what I think it REALLY boils down to though. Homophobia!!!!
I'll wager that most of the rugby detracters have never been in a shower room after practice or a competition. They probably see it as gay etc.

whatever happened to people slagging off their own groups/classes?

one of my most entertaining pastimes is abusing law students (i.e. my own background), the idea of studying law, the evil nature of barristers, etc. arts student saying 'eeugh, smelly engineer' isn't funny. arts student taking the piss out of arts students much much funnier (and usually accurate too!)

Actually leinster rugby is the one that gets slagged tbh - it is the "rock" look kinda thing. but thats only because leinster rugby fans and the attitude surrounding it is the most annoying thing EVER.

/me goes off to buy a sheepskin jacket, go down to donnybrook, watch a match and show NO ****ING ENTHUSIASM WHATSOEVER.

Virtual wave. Hope you found the keys? We only have keys for the SU rooms, the hobgoblins at the CSC have the keys to the society rooms.

Ah, life in house 6. Sooner or later you'll get to know everyone in the building, and realise that some of them never leave....

I'm a Leinster fan. So hypothetically right, if you saw me one day strolling around in my jersey and dubes, would that "attitude" you speak of come to mind straight away? Would you automatically think I'm a stuck up bitch? :( Just wonderin'! Bet it would tho...

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,196 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Also the level of some of the leinster schools rugby has been ****e, especially a few of the blackrock games (no idea how they got as far as they did playing the way they did) yet every one of blackrocks matches has been shown umpteen times because they have the largest contingent :/
