Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Compromised Router firmware?

    Hi guys,

Recently got a multiple infection (Generic 8AQ, Clicker FR, Generic XKS and XFV) on my desktop, which I appear to have successfully cleaned up last night (and boy was it a pain! It took the whole pharmacy cabinet and more: AVG, Adaware, Spybot, Ewido, FixWareOut, HijackThis, etc, etc. ).

However, my router seems to be misbehaving now: it grants an IP (192.168.0.2) to my desktop, but doesn't appear to grant the other IP (192.168.0.3 - I've limited the router to only ever release 2 IPs) for my laptop over the WiFi 'correctly'.

The laptop host name ('D600') is not showing in the router CP, the router shows it with a blank host name (a space) and the right MAC address, and assigns it the right IP address (192.168.0.3). But the IP address on the laptop is 169.something.something.something.

I've run everything I could on the lappie to try and find out if it was infected as well, but it looks clean as an surgery table. What can I do next? What have I missed?

That means that the laptop hasn't received a DHCP response, so it is assigning tself an IP address.

The most likely reason is that a probem with the encryptopn password. Disable encryption on the router and the laptop, and see if they connect. If they do re-enabe PA-PSK (don't use WEP). If you can't get a connection with encrypton disabled, you'll need to bring the laptop to another ocation that has wireless, and verify that it works.

It's unlikely that the router itself has been hacked (though not impossible).
