There's probably a thread I should have posted this in, but this is a fantastic ( imo) cover version of 'Hey Ya' by Outkast done by some...bloke with a beard.

    Is that Richard Cheese?

I love alot of Johnny Cash covers. My favourite is probably "I won't back down" by Tom Petty.

It's really good, didn't think it would turn out so well. :)

    that's pretty cool.

i'm fairly picky when it comes to covers, i see no point in coverng a song if you just keep it exactly the same.

masters of this are biffy clyro they absolutely tear songs apart and make them their own.

they've covered 4 songs "you're the one that i want", "you can go your own way", "take me out" and "buddy holly"

the second i saw this guy i thought it was iron&wine but his beard isn't ginger enough :p

Best Cover: Smashing Pumpkins - Dancing in the Moonlight.

Pumpkins were right up there with Johnny Cash for taking someone elses song and making it their own imho.

Absolutely anything by Me First and the gimme gimme gimmes....nearly all they do is cover versions and even though this is about as polarised as my muscial tastes go, every cover is brilliant and funny into the bargain.

My personal favourites include two versions of "Tainted Love". The first, the one everyone knows and loves, is Soft Cell's. The other is a completely different take on the song by Coil where they slow it down to a funereal pace, dedicating it to all their friends dying of AIDS. The video is on youtube. It was the first music video to be put on display by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It features Soft Cell's Marc Almond as the angel of death on an AIDS ward. Heavy stuff.

In a lighter mood, I love The Flying Lizards' cover of James Brown's "Sex Machine". It's hilarious, they suck all the funk and sex out of it. Also of note is Nick Cave's cover of "Running Scared" by Roy Orbison. Oh and his cover of "Disco 2000". And his cover of "The Singer". And every other cover he's done.

Another notable one Nirvana's cover of Leadbelly's Where did you sleep last night?

That is actualy a cover of Mark Lanegans cover of the same song Lanegan released his version of the song 2 years before the Nirvana version and thier version sounds like a poor rip off of his cover version.

    Morrissey's version of "That's Entertainment"

The Dead Kennedys' (slightly amended) version of "I fought the law"

Luka Bloom's version of "I need love"

William Shatner's version of "Common People"

Arctic Monkeys' version of "Love Machine"
