If you wanted to say 'they said they were going to kill me' I have translated this into Irish as 'duirt siad gur mharaigh siad me' but though it's close enough this isn't really correct. Is there a more colloquial way of putting this in Irish?

Duirt siad go mharoidis me.What you have translated means (they said they killed me) which uses the past tense.You need to use the conditional tense ie an modh coinniollach.
