Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am currently runnig 98SE on a older PC, I want to upgrade to XP (home or Pro - doesnt matter), I see an OEM version on komplett for €88, I also have access to a academic version for €99.

The issue I have is that, sometime in the future I plan on building my own system but not for a while. I read that if I install an OEM version on my current machine then thats it used up for the future i.e. wont be able to use in a new build.

So what about the academic version? Is this the same as an OEM? i.e can it be moved from system to system or is it tied to the first machine its installed on.

I just dont fancy paying for a full retail version!!! (2x OEM is cheaper!!!!!)

I can't be entirely certain but I think that the academic version is the Full Retail version, and as such can be moved at a later date.
You are correct in thinking that the OEM version is locked to hardware (remember to include delivery in the Komplett price too :))

I got an academic version of Windows Server 2003 for a school in my previous job and it was a Volume Licence version - no activation needed. I couldn't say for XP though.

Don't forget to check the small print. Academic may not be used after you graduate ?

Also if you have a PC with 98SE on it, are you sure you it would RUN XP, 256MB ram and 2GB FREE.

Don't forget the OEM lisense means it can't be moved to a different machine but the full retail can.

CM: Thats news to me, last I checked, if you bought an academic version of MS software, say the Student version of Office, you just have to be a student at the time of purchase. You could continue to use the software indefinatly, even if you graduate. I have a student-licenced version of Office 2003 Pro that I bought online from an AER. To the best of my knowledge, and after reading the click-through licence with the software, there is no such demand that I stop using and remove the software once I am no longer a student.

AFAIK there usen't to be such a restriction.

Anywho I think Capt'n Midnight was just saying to beware in case that was how they've worded the license now
