Anyone use Autodesk 3Ds Max 8?

    Hey,

    I just downloaded the demo version of eds max 8 and have been running through a few tutorials. Its my first time using an animation programme. I am just interested in it as a hobby at the moment. Is this one of the better packages aroundand anyone know how much a student version would set me back?

    i use it in work and at home

    student version will set you back about 250 euro for a 1 year licence
    commercial licence will set you back about 4500 euro

    max is a great package especially for smaller studios or hobbiest in that most stuff can be done without huge technical knowledge, for example to do some standard stuff in maya you would need to know mel scripting...

    you can try other soft for free also , maya has a ple version and xsi foundation only costs about 500 euro ex vat (thats for an unlimited commercial version)

    Ive started to teach myself Max as well.
    I found some good sites that have video tutorials on them, most of which are free. http://www.3d-palace.com have a load of cool tutorials. and http://www.3dtotal.com/.
    I find its easier using video than referencing books.
    I am going to try and get a copy of softimage which i heard is easier than max and more of an industry standard.
    At the moment I'm just doing it for fun but getting some good models etc!!
    I was hoping to do a course in the http://www.iadt.ie in 3dmax etc but its not going ahead this term!! Ballyfermot do one as well but thats full-time and i have a job!!!
    Also check out Marks site who posted above! Some nice downloads and links there! Thanks Mark.
