Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can I get wireless with just one computer?

    I'm moving into an new apartment next week, and there's a telewest broadband connection there already. However, it's set up for the second bedroom and that's where my flatmate will be. Can I get wireless internet with only one computer? Like, say my flatmate doesn't have a computer that will be permanently connected to the internet cable, is it still possible to get wireless?

    I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense! We have wireless at my house, but there's always a computer plugged into the internet.

    Yes. Connect a wireless access point to the broadband router.

    Yes, you can still get internet. Firstly you will need a little box called a broadband router to send the internet signal to the rest of the house (and your neighbours so be sure to put a passoword on it!). This goes into your flatmates room. You're own computer then needs a wirless adaptor card in it (most laptop's have one built in already). After a little bit of configuration you are good to surf.

    So I just plug the cable into the router and do a little bit of configuring?

    Router is what you need. Should be straight foward enough to setup. You connect the existing cable from the modem to the router. A few configuration steps are required and you should be set to go.

    Is telewest DSL or cable do you know?

    The Telewest box may already be a router - I don't think Telewest provides service in Ireland, so you won't find amny people here that are familiar with their equipment. If the telewest box actually supports plugging in more than one PC at a time, you probably only need a Wireless Access Point. The simplest way to check would be to connect the laptop to the Telewest box and see what IP address it gets. If it's 192.168.0.something or 192.168.1.something, then the box is already a router. If it's a different address, you probably need a router.
