Protection for car paint

I bought a new car recently and the paint seems quite prone to chipping. It seems to have occured over the last couple of days while I was visiting my parents, there have been roadworks in the area recently and road has been covered with loose chippings. None of the rest of my family have had any problems, I look at my brothers cars which are a few years old and they have zero chips on the bonnet, yet here I am with a 3 week old car and I've already got 3 or 4, ffs.

I've done some searching on the net and I've come across these films you can put on the front of the car for protection. Does anyone have any experience with them or know anything about them? Are they invisible?
Would they be worth getting if a car is prone to paint damage?

It's Nissan G41 Magnetic Black. From what I've read on the net it seems a fair few others are having the same issues with this paint.

Black is the worst - anything will show up (I've owned 3).
