Hi just a quick question, If a tradesman has receipts for lunches purchased while working, can they be included in say motor & travel? When calculating the ajusted net profit before tax, would these expenses have to be added back?

you can expense the odd one alright, but one a day would be pushing it.

keep all receipts and expense the most expensive ;)

Normally a tradesman would claim travel and subsistence expense allowance at the rates as per revenue.

It's all down to the wonderful concept known as subsistence, which can cover you if you spend even 6 hours away from your normal working environment.

Rates are on a sliding scale based on duration an location. All private sector companies follow Revenue's own guidelines. For example, subsistance can vary depending on the city you are in, e.g. London, Brussels, etc.

Subsistance is a seperate concept to milage and the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Also for tradesmen, even though they visit a number of sites / change sites. This is considered there normal place of work so mileage rates etc can't be claimed.
