Freshers' Week is the 2nd week of term, and so this year is September 18th to 22nd

(The week of September 11th is the first week of term, and is known as "Lecture Week".)

    Go 5th fresher's week :)

(on the downside, means that some first years are counted out under the "1/2 your age + 7" rule...)

pfft! 5th??? This will be my 11th (and final) one. Of course it's not a source of fun for me. It just means the place is crammed with lots of people wandering around like sheep not knowing where to go, huge lunch queues and BOPs hugging each other and screaming "OMG!!!" and "haven't seen you in AGES" etc.

And as for the half +7 rule, that rules out everyone but final years for me. :p

3rd one and i think it's finally going to be the first one I take the time to enjoy and it will be the last i can enjoy - next year I'll be in hospitals when freshers week is on - how cruel is that????

How do you think I feel???

I will be on the Archaeological Soc stall for a few hours each day... if I can remember how to get there!!!:D

    Whatever it is, I'm intrigued.

I would offer to sponser you and take you under my wing for the duration... but the campus Police know me too well....:D

It is the week when the college authorities hope you will get all your excesses out of your system in order for you to knuckle down and do some work.

Various societies (see thread above) try to get you to join them with offers of pizza, ice cream, soft drinks etc.

Do not be fooled by them(only joking hulla!!):D , they are all great... in their own boring ways.... still only joking Mods....:D

There are various events of a dubious nature organised too... the Iron Stomach is one such...

    And it's over to....

basically its a bit like rush week in the US, societies bribe you to part with your money (usually about €2, bring a few €2 coins!) with free stuff, and campus is alive with what is basically a fairground of recruiting ****ehawkery.

also, many drinking events, and nights out... particularly if you live in res, you and your genitals will have a good ol' time

Ah no freshers week the best, tis like a fine wine that gets better with age.

Word of warning to the girls do not go within 15feet of the ag soc table. Didnt a girl file for harrasment a couple of years back from the treatment she got from the ag soc guys in the freshers tent?
Also dont be fooled by the cute guy they put at the front of the dramasoc table. It gives you the false illusion that dramasoc is teeming with young Brad pitts, but tis not so.

    Yay David O'Doherty!I love him
Why oh why do we have to sell a good nite out through sex to frehers...'the palyball ball, the cherry ball'.Having a good night out doesnt have to be foccuessed on scoring and sex ya know so why advertise it as one!!

Also can anyone speak at the debate or is the line up already decided?

This, I think, is one of the fundamental differences between men and women.
There's only one reason a guy will spend the night dancing his heart out and that's to achieve the above. The poster designers are clever and know this; possibly all the budding marketing moguls...

Believe it or not, while this is generally true, it is not always so.

I dance purely to have the craic and take the piss. Because I'm not a self-conscious dancer, and in fact, I'd consider myself a "good" dancer (debatable), girls flock towards me when I dance. But that's not why I dance. Even tonight, me and one of my mates hit the dancefloor and within five minutes were surrounded by good looking women (it was 92, after all), but that's not why we were there. We just kept going, taking the piss and having a good time. Sure, you can dance for the sake of picking up women, but tbh, it's not as much fun. Scoring is easy, any fool with a bit of confidence can do it. But having the craic with a few mates and not caring if people think you're nuts is a whole different story. Generally, i've found the opposite sex give you more attention if you're not even trying.

    But that's just me.

I did preface my post with "I think" so I can generalize as much as I want with my thoughts.
However in situations like this you can only really talk in majorites. To that effect if you were to take a survey outside any dublin night club as to why the patrons were there; yes there would be a few celebrating a birthday, new job etc., maybe a few drowning their sorrows but most of the guys would be there with the hope of getting lucky.
But I'm digressing, I was more directly replying to Panda100's query to selling every night out as a chance to score, which I think I answered. And would also like to point out that if you get into the smaller societies and sports clubs there's a lot more nights out organised just to have a laugh.
