How come you're not including the weight of the bar dave? I don't understand why people don't include the bar when saying how much they lift. After all an an Olympic 7 foot bar weighs around 20 kg which is significant enough.

I always estimate and add the weight of bars, dumbbells handles, my bodyweight. At the moment I am aiming to do a weighted pull up with 100% of bodyweight strapped on. I can do one with 56 kg but seeing as I'm fully clothed and have a heavy pair of safety boots on when doing them that adds a bit extra. I have estimated the extra as 3 kg so I say that my best lift is 59 kg. I think that's fair enough!

Dave i have to say, your fitness journal kicks ass - you are very professional in how your going about things.

I'm a soccer player and am taking notes from your workout and routine/diet etc...praticularly loves the spreadsheets/tables - very well organised.

the following interested me and i quote

"Oh I forgot to mention I spend about 40 minutes yesterday doing some Dynamic Stretching, mostly working my hips and back. I've some issues with regard to the wrong areas doing the work so I'm trying to correct this. I also did a tiny bit of Self-myofascial release. I don't have a foam roller yet so I used a small football I had around the house. I only did my calves and christ did I find painful spots. My Peroneals were the bit that hurt the most, and my hurt I mean scream and I was afraid the neighbours would hear.

The article on t-nation said 'This probably won't be pleasant for many people.' and that was an understatement in my case!"

Now as you know footballers are probably the least flexible sports people on the planet - rugby players have obiouvsly got the whole stretching thing down but what is myofascial release?

You said you had extremely tight calves - I have the same problem, huge leg muscles but tight as ****. Tight calf muscles can bring on shin splints (i go to a physio every other week for dry needling to loosen up the calves) so this myofascial thing sounds like just what i need....can you fill me in on some details?

It also could show that your overtraining? You are doing quite a lot of work so go easy on yourself now and then.
