    Hi

I'm currently trying to find out who owns a particular domain name, but that person hasn't filled out the whois information correctly. It was bought from yahoo. Is there any way I can get more Info about this person. They are based in Ireland.

not really, unless you want to try the phone book?
You are supposed to fill in accurate whois details, but thats a moot point.

The person who bought the domain might have been scammer or uber-newber or maybe just secretive. What information have you got so far?

There's a company called "Domain registration of America" who send out letters scamming people into renewing with them. It's been mentioned a few times on this forum.

They get their info form the whois source, so I don't blame people for giving minimal or scant information when registering a domain name, however, check the admin contact email address in the whois output and this will get you close to the owner.

    Hi

    Thanks for the replys.

The email address is not answering my emails. In fairness I think they are just secretive and not a scammer. Just really want to contact the owner.

    Cheers

I kept my letter - you're nobody on the interweb until the Domain registration of America have tried to scam you.

Innacurate WHOIS is in breach of ICANN regulations. Email yahoo about it, and you can even complain to ICANN. They will force the customer to update their whois with real and accurate contact information or they can take the domain from them.

It maybe in breach of ICANN rules, but the number of domains with accurate WHOIS details is probably completely dwarfed by those without it.

A lot of web designers, developers and hosting companies put their details in for their clients' domains. It's one thing when the provider is big and still in business, but when they vanish off the face of the planet the domains are rendered pretty much unusable.

Congress has been made aware of the issue, though they probably aren't fully aware of the gravity of the situation:

With .eu it's even worse as their whois server is based on the one used by .be:
    http://www.isquattedyour.eu/2006/04/26/checking-who-registered-a-eu/

While privacy maybe an issue for the "innocent" I don't think squatters have those rights
