what's the story with Makelele & him playing for the international team?

I was reading last night that Domenech is forcing him to play and that the French Football Fed have the law on their side and can make him play. Whats that all about?

I thought you could call it a day from international any time you want?

Fifa put out a statment last week when this was in the news, I think they said he doesn't have to play for his National side if he doesn't want to, a quick google will provide the answer I'm sure.

Pretty scabby of Domenech really. The man came out of international retirement to rescue France in qualification, you'd think he'd let him retire gracefully now he's helped get them to the World Cup final.

Domenech is a desperate man who was carried by his star players return to form in thw world cup, although they should hve been performing in the first place, so he would do anything i reckon to keep his star players playing!

How come he doesnt do the same to Zidane so if he has such power. Maybe get Platini back too.:)

I think there was is some technicality in terms of retiring officially from international football (i.e you have to send letters to specific people in your country's FA).

AFAIK Makelele didn't retire in the proper fashion (something about faxing a letter after a deadline or something) so Domenech was allowed to call him up, even though it's poor form to do so.
