Under the 'rent a room' scheme, can a landlord insist on notice of 1 full month - even if theres no contract?

A friend of mine has two tenants and let one of them go on two weeks notice - due to the circumstances of why he was leaving. However, he doesnt want the other fella/or any future tenant that 2 weeks is acceptable.

Yes a landlord is entitled to at least a months notice regardless if there is a lease or not.

    See details here:

The Rent-a-Room scheme would appear to be a private domestic arrangement, not subject to usual landlord and tenant arrangements. You are essentially entitled to stay for as long as you have paid the rent. Notice equal to the payment period is nice, but not required unless otherwise agreed.

Wow, i didn't realise that the rent a room wasn't covered by standard tenancies laws - whats the logic behind that???!!!

Anyway OP, Oasis has info on it http://www.oasis.gov.ie/housing/buying_a_house_or_flat/rent_a_room_scheme.html but it looks like without a written contract the tenant can do what they want.

The tenant can do what they want, even if you have a contract. There is no way to enforce such a contract.

You would be trying to dictate someone's domestic situation.

The landlord can keep the deposit for a start...
