We occasionally see Schlenkerla Rauchbier in specialist off licences here. There aren't nearly enough bacon beers on the market, IMO :)

    franziskaner. beautiful drink.
Or an ould pint of Guinness, which, like bacon & cabbage, or a hang-sandwitch is just perfection.

    Thanks for that.
There's also a great one on York Way, in North London, called IIRC Kris Wines.
Tiny little unassuming shop, completely out of the way, but once you step inside, it's ceiling to floor with hundreds of different beers. Quite cheap too.

Had a "Very English Pale Ale" called Ivanhoe recently in Finland.

One of the best pale ales I've ever had.
Never seen it anywhere else before.
Anyone ever had it or seen it anywhere?

Made in England for the Swedish market, 'pparently.

I see. It's very nice. I had it in a 50cl bottle, though.
Maybe I've got Scandinavian taste (although, rest assured I have no liking for sweet, artificial fruit 'ciders' of any strength).

I swear I saw that in Redmond's a few months ago

The Scandinavians make some cracking beers. Haandbryggeriet and Nøgne Ø from Norway are especially good breweries, likewise Ølfabrikken from Denmark -- porter to die for. I hear great things about the likes of Mikkeller and Nils Oscar as well.

No fruit cider in that lot.

Cascade Premium from Tasmania (AU) is pretty outstanding but I've never seen it for sale over here. I've heard great things about micro-brewery beers from the North West coast of the US.

Sierra Nevada (pale ale) is common-ish around and available from a few good off licences. In Dublin both the porter house and Bull and castle shock some of the range

You can occasionally get the Rogue beers, from Oregon, in these parts. They're very good.

Nils Oscar pale ale is a really well made, balanced beer. Very moreish indeed!

Guinness or La Trappe or Geuze Boon or Maisel's Weisse or Franziskaner dunkel or Yleng Yleng. God I'm thirsty!

There was a Youngs house in Chiswick that served Mild which did a good impression of the contents of a blocked drain. The smell was vile, it looked liked gravy and I reckon you could have hidden anything in it.

Anyone ever seen any of the US Honey Lagers in Ireland?

Sounds like the publican way not treating his casks right, the stuff only has a shelf life of five days max and unfortunately some unscrupulous operators try to serve the stuff even when it gone bad:mad:

Used not like Mild, but I've come around to it, after a few beer festivals.

    It's definatly an aquired taste.

Probably far removed from the quality beers above but does anyone have an opinion on the Czech beer "Prazsky"? I had some cans the weekend and it went down easy and was a reasonable price.
Also tried the Polish beer Tyskie which wasn't bad either.

For a decent American beer I'd have to say Sam Adams or my personal favourite, Blue Moon
