Yakubu has been left out of the Boro squad for tomorrows game. I wonder does that mean Everton are going to bid for him ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭Washout

    Feed the Yak!

Deal agreed between clubs...now to sort out the medical and personal terms.

Funny that this goes thrught the same week as the VOTE for Kirkby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭ciaran76

According to Sky Sports News Everton fans have voted to move to Kirkby....I see this as the death of the club to be honest.:(

That vote is not the final decision on the matter and the verdict will not be announced until 10:30AM tomorrow. However, if the majority of fans want it, then I can only see it going ahead. Did you look at visuals of the new stadium though? Here:

    http://stadium.evertonfc.com/stadium-visuals.php

It doesn't look bad at all but history has shown that a new stadium can be disastrous for team form! I'd prefer to stay at Goodison, but you cannot do that forever.

    Life-long Everton fan,
    Kevin.

Fair enough Kevin but why wouldn't the club answer alot of fans these questions ???

The cost of the Kirkby project to Everton has gone from £10m-£15m to the £50m mentioned in the Werder Bremen programme. Why is this, how does it break down and how will this money be raised?

Why are fans in the ticket database as regular matchgoers - despite not holding season tickets or being members of Evertonia – excluded when some Evertonia members may have taken out membership to purchase a ticket for a single game, for example, a derby game?

Why can't the Kirkby ballot be postponed until other options, notably Bestway, have been properly explored?

I dont know how to feel about the whole situation to be honest.

Kirkby is ideal because there would be less investment from the club.
Is the figure of 50 mill official or is it the scaremongers touting a figure.
Also if the stadium looks anything like the presentation then i will be well impressef

The council up to this point have done nothing to help the situation. they have knwn for ages about evertons desires and its at the last minute they came up with a half arsed presentation to Everton with this Bestway idea. to me it seemd like they came up with it in MS Paint.

Of course they could extend the liverpool boundries to encorparate Kirkby.
That would solve everyones problems :)

Bujt you guys all have to agree that in order for us to progress as a serious club then we need a new stadium.

So moving to a stadium that Everton won't own will be good for the club. I fear for the future of this club I really do.

    Edit:

Also after thinking for a little while I think that for knowing the way Everton run things that this might not go ahead anyway. I am sure they will fcuk it up the way they did with Kings Dock , NTL and the Sports Fund or whatever it was called.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,980 ✭✭✭Kevster

I don't know what you mean when you say that you "fear for the future" of Everton. I mean, it could very well be a positive move.

However, I just looked at a map and I can see that this new Kirkby are is 7KM from Stanley Park. Can you imagine how pissed-off the life-long Everton fans that live beside the stadium are feeling? Man, if that happened here I'd be irate.

I see Fernandez is signing for Valencia and Yakubu has to goto the Home Office as he hasn't played 75% of the International games.

Good to see teh fans duped again by the hierarchy in Goodison.

I'm not an Everton fan, so I haven't kept fully up to date with the deal, but I've a few questions that you might be able to help me with.

    - Is the deal that Tesco own the land surrounding the ground, and the ground, and Everton pay them a yearly rent?
    - Is it that there will be a Tesco supermarket attached to the ground?
    - Whats in it for Tesco that they're willing to go to the huge expense of this?
    - If Tesco will own the ground, what is the need for Everton to raise the 10/15/50m?
    - Are they going to build transport links from Lime St out to Kirkby?. If not, how are fans going to get there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭ciaran76

I will try answer as best I can.

    - Is the deal that Tesco own the land surrounding the ground, and the ground, and Everton pay them a yearly rent?

Yes Everton will pay them a "peppercorn" rent which is leased to them for 999 years.

    - Is it that there will be a Tesco supermarket attached to the ground?

No not exactly it will be in the same retail park.Similar to what Bolton have from what I have read.

    - Whats in it for Tesco that they're willing to go to the huge expense of this?
Tesco at the moment cannot get planning permission to build in Kirkby and need a Leisure/entertainment project which will allow them to then build their shop.

    - Whats in it for Tesco that they're willing to go to the huge expense of this?
They get a lovely big shop just outside Liverpool.

    - If Tesco will own the ground, what is the need for Everton to raise the 10/15/50m?
    Good question.

    - Are they going to build transport links from Lime St out to Kirkby?. If not, how are fans going to get there?

Kirkby has a population of 40k people and then every 2nd weekend upto 50k people will be going to this town. There are no plans at the moment to build anything.

To be honest with you I was almost in tears when i read this all over th eplace yesterday.

Imagine the fans being promised two highly promising players to add to the squad. and now there will be no Fernandez and Yakubu isnt a cert either.

It makes my blood boil if we have to make do with Lee Carsley and Phil Neville in the center of midfield. no creativity whatsover.

After seeing the way this club i have loved all my life is being run I am beginning to Lose all faith.

I'm confused about the Yakubu thing. Why, after spending 3 or 4 years already in England does he need another work permit? And what happens if it's rejected, will he be able to go back and play for Boro?

Basically he decideed not to play in the african nations cup the last time and concentrated on playing for Boro. thus he doesnt meet the international clearance required for a work permit apparently.

as far as im aware also his work permit at boro should be fine as he is still under contract to them and his contract there is subject to a valid work permit

Do you think they'll really have that "The People's Club" sign on the outside of the stadium, it seems a bit contrived.

Its funny how these 2 players were paraded a week before the votes had to be in for Kirkby.

You're ok as far as creativity goes though, since you have Cahill and Arteta sitting in front of Carsley or Neville.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭ciaran76

Cahill is not creative he is more of an impact player I think.

Everton need more creative and another goalscorer and 1 more defender.

Will we ever be able to compete for the title without getting some rich American businessman as chairman though? (He/she doesn't have to be American, of course!) I mean, does all of this not frustrate ye; that there is a huge predictability about the Premiership now regarding which teams will finish where.

In a way, it's a microcosm of the real world: The rich teams get richer and the poor get poorer. I mean, the teams that are the richest get the most prize money, because they finish in the highest positions. They also get €20+ million for European Cup TV money. This cannot go on forever... ...

The thing is we never seem to be linked with (sugar daddies/sugar mommies) and when we do they are fake ala FSF.

Also Ive been thinking of this a bit more. If Everton are not going to own the stadium at Kirkby. does this not make Everton less attractive to potential investors?

I think the reason this is would be Kenwright and Co. They wont let go of the trainset !
Every club has had some investors sniffing around. Have you noticed Everton haven't ? Shows there is something wrong high up in there.
And with all the long term loans they have set up I reckon they are barely getting by. I hear rumours that this year there will be another 10 million loss in the club.

I can't believe people actually voted for these people to trust them on a move to Kirkby.

I would not blame Fernandez I would look close at Kenwright and co and how long it took them to tie up the deal.
If I were Fernandez I would rather Valencia and Champs league were Everton were dilly dallying with the transfer fee.

Hopefully another good signing for Moyles in Yakubu. An interesting partnership with Johntson and Yakubu. Looking like a nice squad for the season.

i think this criticism is a bit unfair -- and i was very anti Kenwright -- but in fairness he has got Moyes , and stood by him , and now he is probably the best young manager in England -- we buy a top class forward , to go along with much better signings - and we are now a top 6 club -- a far cry from a few years ago, when we were relegation fodder -- as regards the move , what other club ballots there fans , and agree to stand by the decision -- NONE that i can think of -- the fans voted to move , so majority rules - if the club is to move up a level we need a better stadium , its a fact like it or not

Edit : I have altered my view a little and I mean moving to Kirkby will not make us move up a level.

I have nothing against moving to a new stadium but give us the facts and dont start changing the figures every week when people realise you have told us lies (Kenwright and Co.)

...and we will be seeded for the UEFA cup after last night's results from the Champions League

    http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/seeduc2007.html

We'll miss teams like Bayern, Villareal, Ajax, Leverkusen, Real Zaragoza, Athletico Madrid and Fiorentina...

Hopefully we get a nice draw in the first round and then take on the big boys!

Bayern Munich semi-final again anyone? :D

but seriously what other club ballots there fanbase on a move -- most other clubs just do it -- this is the 2nd ballot in 10 years -- and both times the supporters voted to move -- the majority realise , that to compete with the likes of Arsenal , we must move like they did with Highbury , i'm sure without a fans ballot :)

Which begs the question why did they goto the fans ?

Answer : Cos if it goes t1ts up they can blame the fans as they wanted it !!!

Yeah it was a great phrase when Moyes 1st came on board but since then I feel the board there are erasing this from the club.

Lying to the "people" saying they went to Liverpool City Council about possible site in Stanley Park.

Gravesen had a medical at Everton this morning apparantly (according to tomorrow's papers). They also say Everton had a bid of £9m for Scott Brown turned down.

Gravesen I can't believe it. One of the most incosistent players of all times at Everton.

We miss out on Fernandes and sign some player we got rid of 2 years ago. Suppose he is good squad cover but I really think this is a bad move.
Smells like a panic buy in my opionion cos the messed up on Fernandes.

am absolutely gutted with this news...yet another defensive midfielder who couldnt pass the ball if his life depended on it.

i wonder if moyes wants three baldies on the pitch so when hibber hoofs it long then the Carsley, Grav and Johnson can all run in differant directions and defenses will panic cause they dot know which one is Johnson.

Seriously? Gravesen's an attacking midfielder with superb technical ability. His problem is his lack of any football intelligence.

Since 1995 , I've been a disgruntled fan , and despised Billy Kenwright , but much like Stan and Ireland , i think he has turned it round -- the quality of players we are signing is much better, yeah we lost Fernandes , I also think the criticism of Gravesen is a bit unfair, did he not help us reach the CL , with an inferior team, than we have now -- maybe a bit more support for the blues , maybe in order

I support that team through thick and thin and as an Everton fan there has been alot of thin !!!!

Gravesen was one of the most inconsistent players for us in the 4 years he was with us. I went to many a game when he was playing and have to say he was very frustrating to watch.

Arteta on the other hand I could watch playing football all day.

Arteta gives it all for this club....he has had an unreal consistent start to the season pickig up from where he left off from last season. this is the kind of ability/passion we need in the center of midfield as well. Gravesen has all the passion in the world but he is extremly inconsitant.

My arguements against signing him are that I feel he will not provide the support Johnson needs in order for Johnson to score goals. carsely and neville have both proven themselves to be useless for Johnson.

That is why I personally was gutted with the whole Fernandez deal. I dont personally blame the club....its all come out now that Benifica recieved a better offer which meant also that MSI could keep their holding on the player which is good for them. also fernandez gets to play in a team in the champs league rather than UEFA cup. if that offer came up last minute to 95% of footballers in fernadez shoes they would jump too at the chance.

We are being linked with some creative midfielders in the papers today...in riquelme and modic and maybe others...so Moyes knows that is the area we need to stregthen most.

If Moyes pulls it off then neville can finally drop back to right back where he should be playing and we will have a well structured team.

on paper the following isnt a bad looking team either

    Howard

    Neville--Yobo--Lescott--Baines

    Arteta--Grav*--XXXXX--Pienar(or Osman)

    Yakubu--Johnson

*Cahill to replace Grav when he comes back
XXXXX = a through and through creative attacking midfielder.

I truelly belive we have everything in our squad now apart from that XXXXX midfielder and thats the frustrating part for me because if that role is filled then Johnson will fire.
