Upgrading Ford Focus Car Audio

I want to take out the OEM tape deck in my ford focus and put in a Pioneer DEH-P75BT Bluetooth Head Unit.

My understanding is that all I need to do this is put in a facia adapter to convert the bay in to a DIN standard head unit bay, and also an ISO wiring adapter to convert from the ford connector to the ISO connector at the back of the head unit. I speak out loud because I would appreciate if you could tell me if I'm wrong on this.

After that it's the head unit itself, which incarexpress.co.uk can give it to me for €405. On the otherhand I can get the same head unit from eBuyer for €325. That's quite a saving on a head unit that some Irish stores are charging in excess of €500.

So my question, is eBuyer crap or something or have I found a good deal?

Also when installing this thing, do I need a special key or tool to take out the OEM tape deck. What is the process involved?. Do you think I should get it done professionally (because I have heard if it's not done right it can really make your dash look crap). I am not the worst technically (built this PC for feck sake), but have never modified a car in any way (even a simple job such as in car audio). I just want to do a good clean job, that not only sounds good, but doesn't leave any cosmetic blunders behind, Any pointers?

Beware of buying a radio on Fleebay. They are nearly always American spec units, but you will never know until you get it. The radio stepping is different so will be useless for most Irish stations. It also wonty have an ISO connector as this is a EURO standard connector.

Just check up and ask the seller before you commit to purchase.

P.S I know this cos I got stung with an American Pioneer DEH-P80MP.

No No...I said eBuyer, not eBay! above

Are they any good?, they seem to be from the UK

That radio is fine and a very good price too. Never used Ebuyer myself but looking at a few reviews they seem to be ok to deal with.

The removal keys should look like these. You'll get different ones with the headunit.Step by step removalThe Pioneer units use flat keys.
I've stuck an 4 year old Pioneer unit into a Ford Connect and I can't remember if I needed a ISO to car wiring adaptor like I did with a Ford Escort van. I think most of the cars/headunits are mainly ISO connections.(could be wrong though)
The face plate thing just clicks onto the dash. You may be able to get different adaptors to fill the extra space. Some may have storage space hole etc.
Another handy thing about the Ford setup is you'll have plenty of space behind/under the headunit to hide any extra wiring the new headunit has.

Here's what my conversion looks like.DSC00048.JPG

Cheers tax man (first time I've ever said that I'd say ;)), that was helpful. I thought the deal was a bit too good to be true, because it turns out if you're in Eire it can be a nightmare dealing with eBuyer.

    Recent thread on it here
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054940799&referrerid=&highlight=ebuyer

I dont' want to throw a few hundred euro to the wind and spend as much on phone calls and messing about with support numbers in the UK. I think I may go back to incarexpress (for peace of mind) as quite a few of yez here seem to have good experiences.

This thread (and others) should be shown to management in companies like eBuyer, I mean this is exactly what they don't want (lack of customer trust in QOS).

    Hmmm...bummer:(

You could try Pixmania.com €438 for the unit.
Again like Ebuyer some people will say stay well clear.
I've used them a good few times without any hassle.
Others around here think they're crap cause something went wrong and got nowhere with the customer service. A bit like most companies out there today.:p :p

    Good luck with the install.

Thanks mate. I think I'll just continue to shop around. If I find a good (safe) deal, I will post the details. Failing that InCarExpress or Pixmania seem to be my fallbacks for now.

    Cheers

Does anyone in here know of any car audio installers in the Dublin region? I've tried Halfords but they only install in store purchases, I've tried Ice Communications but the same thing and I've tried Techstore but after 10+ phone calls and an installation date they never showed up for I still can't get them to give me a straight answer.

Are you simply trying to install a new Head Unit? Its' just a case of pulling out the old one, and pushing in the new one, and getting whatever adaptors you may need....people here will be able to advise...

Is not that simple but it can be done in 30 min. with the right gear.
First, get you head unit that you like.
Also you will need a Ford wirring loom like the one below:

    and a Facia adaptor (below):

When you have all this is just a matter of doing the job.

Theres a place a few hundred feet down the road from the Motor Factors in Rathgar that does this, can't remember its name, find the Motor Factors and you'll find it though.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
