Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can McCarthy Promote Wolves?

    Rare post about Wolves!

Leeds - Wolves has just ended with a one goal win to Wolves, this puts them level top on points and third on goal difference. They have not been pretty but they have been tight and hardworking in fact pretty much the opposite of the Glen Hoddle side which largely broke up over the summer.

Having got Sunderland promoted with record points on a low budget can he do something similair again?

    Mike.

I suspect he can, but they'll need a new manager if they do get to the premiership.

I wouldnt be suprised. Obviously all the united supporters will say he has no chance and his a crap manager but if i wanted a manager to try and get a championship team promoted his name would always be top of the list.

Very tough challenge though. If you look at the league there are alot of teams who have a better team and squad on paper. I dont think they will get direct promotion. But they will definitly be close to playoff spot.

Any of the following have a chance - b'ham, WBA, Sunderland, Cardiff, Coventry, Palace, Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Preston.

In most leagues you will win the league if you win your home games and draw your away games. Wolves were well beaten by Preston a month back on a Friday night game, that was the last time they were on TV if I'm not mistaken. They looked much much better today, and the away win helps to make up the points defecit for a home defeat.

Maybe they prefer playing away; McCarthy likes a tightly-organised team with everyone doing the simple things quickly and accurately; the pitch at Molineaux is massive, wider than most in England, and this hardly helps. On that basis, it might be worth looking to back Wolves often at small stakes on their travels this season..

Hoddle had the pitch widened by a couple of metres as he was convinced that the narrower pitch width had helped opposition teams by allowing them to sit 5 across the middle, the extra grass was supposed to aid Hoddles wide play.

I think he can because he has proven himself to be a very good Championship-level manager...however staying in the Premiership might be another story.
The goal today was superb by the way, worthy of being a goal scored in any league.

Would not have had that amount of time and space in "any" league.

Have been chatting to one of the lads that plays for Wolves and he said it is all change there. Trainging is changed (for the better in his opinion) although there is some who do not think so. While McCarthy is not universally liked there, the players have recognised that he can do a job in the championship.

I think he might just be able. His style of football management seems to suit the championship but not the premiership, God love him i dont think he realises that. The two leagues are poles apart...

I think he can get them promoted even though he only took them over a week or 2 before the season started.

If he has proper money to spend in the Prem you never know what he can do.
