Conroe cooler

Gona leap to conroe the 6600 to be exact in a asus p5b deluxe 965, 2 gb DDR2 800mhz ram, wondering what cooler to get i was looking at arctic cooling freezer pro but hear good things from ninja scyth, any opinions, im gona hope to overclock heavily

i got the asus p5 hd deluxe with a evo blue cpu cooler on it .. just in a the prosses of sorting out my case with some fans and have to replace the termal paste.. as far as i know acording to pc format my mobo is one of the best for oc... though i havent tryed yet going to be picking my fans and stuff from peats on friday and hopful start ocing over the weekend.

btw does anyone know how acurate those software temp monitors are.. got one with the board (pc probe) and getting some high temps on the memory (50 - 60 degrees)

Psycopat, never had any dealings with scan.co.uk, can't be any worse than ocuk or Komplett. Fingers crossed you don't have to rma anything.

There's a few threads on xs forums about pc probe being over 20' off in some cases. I just go by the mobo socket temp measured by speedfan.

If you're still sourcing the mobo, I got a P5W Dh from www.microaid.ie . You need to search by model name to find the mobo -.
2 day turnaround and cheap postage. I would use them again.

If you're going to get a Gigabyte, get a DS3. Loads of people have them so if anything were to go wrong you have a big support base. Plus the bios is being updated regularly.

The DS3 doesn't have heat pipes, just a regular old block on top of the chip.
Its shaped in such a way that you could screw a fan on using the fins of the sink to grip the screw threads. I saw someone on XS doing it.

Don't stop at 3Ghz :eek: You'll definitely get there on stock vcore (i got to 2.8 (310fsb) on stock fully stable). Week 26 & 27 conroes need less juice to hit higher fsb's, ya should have no probs gettin to 3.2Ghz before ya start gettin worried bout temps. Be sure to read the stickies on xs bout the settings to turn off (c1e is a pain if its not disabled)

Kentsfield is just around the corner, I have been tlaking to maverick-sg1 about his kentsfield chip, and it is a absolute monster. And overclocks to 3.6ghz minimum.

Why would you want to bother with a Kentsfield though ?

I really and truly don't see the need for quad core unless

1. Running a server.
2. Absolutely loads of video encoding / video editing.

It's gonna be a long time before you see a game putting 100% load on 2 cores never mind 4 of them.

cheap replacement till kentsfield comes mainstream tbh, ill prob get 1 when its out
