It's well know they get their whey from Glanbia Nutritionals. A few of their staff were from Glanbia Nutritionals UK and the CFM process they use is trademarked by Glanbia Nutritionals. MP Max range is made by Glanbia as well.

Bulk powders like BCAAs would be from china unless its the instantised version from Japan.

They source from about 5-6 co's for protein. They would deal direct with one company (manufacturer) in the UK another in Poland and the other's via the agent in the UK.

You will find Glanbia just do the bars and Max range.

Soy mainly from China. However the whey - any type is all EU based.

The BCAA's - 2 co's in Japan do instant and 4-5 in China. Instant BCAA is not as advanced a product as we would think, it can/could be done in house very easily by any blender.

Whoever said these co's were buying from China and repackaging their whey in Germany or wherever is just trying to discredit these co's.

Show the guy this thread and ask him to comment anonymously -plenty on here can back up our views - bet he cannot do likewise!:)

Theres a reason why I wouldn't put too much faith in those accreditions but I won't go any further. They won't disclose the source because its China.

This actual COA is from a Netherlands Joint Venture Company.

One partner is from NL and they specialise in flat cylindrical cheeses, they process 900 million kg of milk into cheese and whey.

The other partner is a UK based family owned dairy farm/ milk processor/whey protein company.

The joint venture company is who makes the specialty wheys.

Reflex, Bulk Powders all buy and use the exact same product.

Just one other point - China is huge - highly unlikely all the co's get the stuff in the one place for example!

It'd be great if there was a Wal-Mart for supps in China but there isn't.

Most co's don't bother importing themselves and prefer to use one of 3-4 dedicated importers.

Pharma First Nutrition Great Whey - Choclate.

Feckin delicious and mixed with glutamine.

I notice you post in the rugby forum, did you get recommended it by your rugby club? I'm on the same stuff after my club was recommended it by a nutritionist who works with Leinster rugby branch.

I tend to do high volume workouts where I'm sore for a day or two after and since I've started taking this stuff I don't get DOMS so obviously its good stuff.

Bought a 2.5kg tub of Whey Isolate from bulkpowders last week. It's by far the most difficult to mix powder I've ever used. It took me about 2 minutes to blend 2 x 30g scoops with 750ml of milk yesterday. Brought some to work in the smart shaker and it ended up making cement in the shaker. It's thicker and lumpier than porridge.

Defo switching back to MyProtein, regardless of the price.

Dathai what exact product did you buy?

From what you describe it is hard for me to identify what you have.

I was going to suggest two things:

    1. It is a non-instantised isolate which may be one of their products.
    2. Could it be a casein product (error etc) which does require more liquid than whey but then 750mls is a lot for 60grams imo.
    Is it unflavoured or flavoured?

Are you looking for an alternative whey supplement or an alternative for the porridge mix?

As ON do a great product called 100% Oats & Whey. I find it great in the mornings.

I put the whey into my porridge oats, lovely stuff

I'm 17 and I'm looking to start taking protein. I bought a tub Maximuscle promax diet a while back  and used it up, and I'm trying to get away Maximuscle cause of the expense. I'm looking for a good quality whey protein, that won't leave me bloated or cover my back in spots  for as cheap as possible. I'm taking Pharmaton as a multivitamin, and thinking about using creatine. Any advice on brands and where to buy them, in stores or online, would be really helpful :)

You're right to get away from maximuscle. While i think they make good stuff they are overpriced and poorly flavoured. My favourite at the moment is kinetica whey (http://www.unsportsnutrition.ie/supplements/product/74/Kinetica_Sports_Whey_2_._27Kg). Tastes good, great value and it's Irish. I do dabble into myofusion when I want to mix it up too.

If you're thinking about taking creatine as well, start out with the protein. IMO its importance that you can notice the difference that each supplement is making and you can't do that if you just start taking them both together!

Im 26 6ft and 80kgs. Im sticking to the paelo diet (nuts, meat-no sugar or bread) bar a few cheat items during the week. I work out twice a day most days am and pm. Or in the am only if i have Gaelic football training in the evening. Ive got lean muscle but tring to get that extra bit of definition in my abs area. As the football season gets busier im starting to get DOMS and think its time to start taking some sort of protien or whey but dont want to gain size. Never taken anything before so suggestions would be greatly appreciated? not

    Hi Denis,

Have a look at the bulk suppliers such as http://myprotein.com/ie
When your buying products such as Maximuscle your paying for an advertising budget as well, hence the higher prices.

I'd recommend getting a bag of whey protein concentrate http://www.myprotein.com/ie/products/impact-whey-protein
On a price basis you can get it for as low as €10.66/kg, (depending on the size you buy and flavour) compared with €43.75/kg for the Promax Diet. There are considerable savings to be made.

In terms of quality it's one of the best available, just take a read back through some of the pages of this thread and you will see it recommended time and time again.

If your feeling bloated you may be lactose intolerant. In that case the only whey protein suitable for you would be isolate. http://www.myprotein.com/ie/products/impact-whey-isolate
Isolate is a higher grade protein than concentrate (90% protein vs 80%). It is also very low in lactose and fat due to the filtration process during manufacturing. From the symptoms mentioned it does sound like a lactose intolerance.

I wouldn't bother taking creatine yet, see how you get on with the whey first, and then take things from there. Again, for the future, when you do decide to take creatine, have a look at myprotein, it's cheap as chips (less than €14/kg) and that would last you a long time!

If you stick in my referral code of MP344008 when you are signing up you will get 5% off your first order. **Disclaimer, I will get referral points if you use it.

Lets us know how you get on whatever you decide. :)

Any sort of whey would aid your recovery, if you have a local nutrition shop near by that sells supplements take a trip down and have a look around or just browse the net.

I'm sure there will be plenty of myprotein recommendations to follow but myself ATM I'm taking optimum nutrition gold standard whey and couldn't recommend it more. Also from my experience with plenty of differnt wheys, the safe bet is vanilla flavour the rest at least to me can be very chemicaly tasting if that makes any sense but not all of them.

The better tasting it is the more likely you are to actually consistantly include it in your diet, another great tasting and quality whey is myofusion by Gaspri nutrition.

As far as gaining definition in the abs, some weighted exercises for the area might help also you said your pretty lean but are you lean enough ? if you want your abs to show its worth monitoring your body fat % because that's really what its all about in most cases.

    Twice a day?

You machine. I'm not surprised you have doms. I would recommend taking some type of whey anyway. You can pick up a tub for 40 to 45 in most supplement shops and see how you go from there. I can't see you putting on any weight with the amount of training you're doing so the whey should help you recover

Not exactly a traditional supplements question but I was wondering if anyone knows if the large plastic tubs your Whey comes in are recyclable? I kept the first few a year ago to use as storage or a change jar or something but still haven't bothered and now they're amassing in my kitchen and I want rid. Don't know whether they're to go in green recycle bin or black waste bin.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭farmchoice

i put mime in the recycling. to be honest i never checked i just assumed they could be recycled.

I was going to do that but I said I'd see if anyone knew for sure. Considering there is so much material to the larger containers it would be a waste to send them to the dump if they can be recycled.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

The very common black or white tubs you see all over are made predominantly from HDPE.

Smart looking tubs that are translucent in a variety of colours are genreally made from PET.

    recycleCodes.jpg

The lids are usually HDPE or PET or PP, scoops usually PP or similar.

By and large every aspect of the tubs are recyclable albeit if going into great detail not all parts in the same section in your local recycling centre - some have card inserts in the lids for example.:)

This should all be noted on the base of the container by one of the symbols above.

Picture attached of PET on top of a HDPE tub.

Has the number 2 in the recycle symbol. Feel like a toolbag for not thinking to look underneath :) It's just a few of those Optimum Nutrition ones, black non transparent tubs. Will lob them in green bin so. Thanks :)

    No.
It should also be noted that VAT on whey in the UK is not 100% certain yet and there is still every chance that powdered products can remain as they are - which is 0% vat.

There is an online petition for those interested in signing:

No. MyProtein already charge Paddy VAT.

It will effect the other bulk suppliers and the branded supplement stores like cheap uk supplements.

Do you work for MyProtein? You seem to shoot down anyone who legitimately criticizes it and try to bully them from commenting further.

The taste is disgusting, the quality is poor and it doesnt mix well.
    Theres the truth folks.
