After being opened for 3 years, I am going for bin them and start again.

Ya I think I'm going to bin them. Better safe than sorry I think.

I'm going to start training again in October, what would you recommend I order? I liked the ON stuff when it was in date. I'd like to try the creatine again, it def worked when I used it. I still don't know what Glutamine was supposed to do!

I have a home gym and I usually do the stronglifts 5x5 program.

Differnt strokes for differnt folks for every person who says something is right there will be another who says its wrong, the biggest example of that is the steroid debate.

When you show me your study/reply on how it doesn't work , I bet I could find find a counter argument that's equally as convincing that training on an empty stomach does work. Don't knock it till you try it and then judge yourself on how your own body responds to it, I use to be the typical bulk and cut 6 meals a day guy but for me this works 100 times better and Iv gotten the results to prove it.

I can vouch for fasted cardio in the morning is best because insulin levels are lowest, GH is still peaking high from sleep and lower blood glucose levels leave fats to be more readily used.

Fasted resistance training on the other hand is something I wouldn't do. Fat is burned in the mitochondria through beta-oxidation, an aerobic event. With resistance training being primarily anaerobic the main source of fuel is CP and ATP.

Its not a case of, "I can post a study to prove your study wrong". Its bio-chemistry, its how the body works, its not up for debate.

Martin Berkhan off leangains.com does resistance training on and empty stomach (well he ingests 10g bcaa's). He says it causes higher levels of GH to be released, it depletes glycogen levels in the body which means to post workout meal will go straight into repairing the muscles rather than being stored as fat. It's not for everyone but don't knock it till you try it.

Kinetica and Optimum Nutrition are probably the two biggest branded whey protein names that get recommended on the forum. I'm counting myprotein as unbranded

I've tried both of the above in nearly all of their flavours. Kinetica flavours are richer and nicer than ON in my opinion but I find that Kinetica doesnt mix well with water.
ON flavours are very hit and miss for me but they mix great with water.
Either way get samples before you she'll out on a big tub, especially with ON as it is the more expensive of the two.

Impossible for me to say if one is "better" than the other as protein is just protein.

    Hope this help!

    I use Kinetica.
The Chocolate mint is very tasty in my opinion.
Strawberry is a bit strong I get sick of taking it after a while, well thats gust my opinion.
Its a small bit cheaper to buy.
FitnessIreland is the cheapest I found for it.

    Anyone use Syntrax Matrix?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

Parcel Motel should work but with 20% vat coming on the 1st october it will make very little difference.

The other issue possibly is the size and weight restrictions which parcel motel may have - IIRC the have a 5kg limit on the boxes not sure however.

In theory it will work just check the dims of parcel motel versus size of box and look at the weight.

Can anybody give me a recommendation?

Intend on buying protien supplement form MP and just wonder what people recommend from these 3:

    True Whey
    Impact Whey Protein
    Total Protein

I am targeting lean mass, maybe a small bit of weight gain but primarily just lean mass.

I alternate between the gym and the pool everyday. I train in the gym every 2nd day and go for a swim the day in between.

I do pure resistance training in the gym (and short cycle to and from work/gym eveyday) and then leave the cardio until the next day in the pool.

Are the 3 supplements much the same?

they all do pretty much the same thing.

Impact is a basic whey concentrate so cheap and cheerful.

Total Protein is a blend of different powders (whey, egg and milk protein) so the digestion of the whey is slowed by the others.

True Whey is whey concentrate/isolate blend with digestive enzymes and probotics. It will have a better flavouring system as its a premium product. Banana and strawberry is lovely if you care about taste.

I had a bit of a river cottage moment yesterday, the father in law was given a full carrier bag of wild blackberries which myself and the mrs got half of. They were left to me to eat so I cooked them down a bit bagged and froze them.
I threw some in a shaker with unflavoured whey and its lovely stuff....and free! :D

Anyone tried the new flavours of Impact Whey protein at MyProtein.com? Lemon Cheesecake, Peaches & Cream or Rhubarb & Custard? I absolutely love their strawberry & banana flavours (especially mixed together!) and was thinking about picking one or two of these up. I know they'll be quite sweet but that suits me nicely.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

A friend of a friend was saying he got the Lemon Cheesecake flavour and it was "totes amazeballs".

I can't vouch for it though as I haven't tried it!

Cookies & Cream and Choc mint both taste quality :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I agree about the Cookies and Cream - mixed with milk it's like a real milkshake. Same with the Strawberry one, I genuinely look forward to drinking it! I'll be picking some up next week so will report back afterwards.

Would definitely like to here more on this!!! That's a massive difference in price and to be honest i wouldn't really rate Holland & Barrett's products very highly anyway!

Not bad value at all - very small pack size so better value can be had but for a small add-on purchase they are rock solid and very much good to go!

I ordered Lemon Cheesecake and Rubarb & Custard on Monday, so should be able to report back in the next few days. I've no idea what Humbug is and some sort of description would help, but I might give that one a shot once they get the Peaches & Cream back in stock too.

I came across this site last night, their own brand whey looks very cheap, bulkpowders cheap

I got the Rhubarb and Custard one a few weeks back and was very impressed. Tastes like the sweets of the same name!

Anyway, ordered a load more protein off myprotein in various flavours as a result. Would usually buy ON stuff, but gonna give this a shot.

Brilliant, that's what I was hoping for! I've recently been mixing the Banana and Strawberry together and it's absolutely gorgeous, especially mixed with milk.
