I've never heard of them but it seems like a very good deal.

I'd say they're ok -- I mean what's involved in forming a company, paperwork and satisfying the legal requirements. It should be straightforward enough.

Have not looked in detail at the site but this did pop out

    How you can reach us
    Phone: 0808 234 8303
    Email: info@registeracompany.ie
Post: Register A Company, 26 York Street, London W1U 6PZ, England

    I also find this strange
Do I need to provide identification?
No identification is required - however a witness must sign the documents once you have downloaded them from our website.

With a dogey witness, anything is now possible and Paul Appleby will have nobody to sue.

My recollection was that some ID was necessary; [ Am I wrong [yet again on boards:) .]

I don't think the CRO charges €100 euro for incorporation but then again, that's dependent on share issue???

I incorporated my own company which cost me approximately €70 in total but this company does seem to offer this service at a very competitive rate!!

You do need identification for incorporation purposes unless the commissioner for oaths knows you.

I used them recently, and while the site does what is says-- the forms it generates for you aren't secure at all - anyone can download them from the web. Major security issue-- so I wouldn't recommend them at all until they get that issue on their site sorted.

    Hope that helps...

They don't register a company, they just help you to fill in the form and provide
    you with some other documents.

You don't need ID to use the website, you may need it if you get a oaths
    comissioner to sign the forms.

The CRO fee is 100 euro.

The form generated are available to the public anyway, via the cro website
so I wouldn't be too worried about security.

    Sorry I'll re-phrase that:

The filled-in forms that registeracompany.ie generates for you are not secure... meaning that all the personal details you enter about your company, which in turn, their site, creates PDFs out of - are just sitting in an unsecure folder on their website and anyone can get at it.

I used them because it was faster and easier than filling in the forms myself directly from the CRO, however I was shocked to find that they didn't keep this personal data secure on their site.

    Anyway just my 2 cents...

All they seem to do is fill in the forms for you based on their own forms that you have to fill out anyway?

We used companysetup.ie and they actually register the company for you, provide a bound articles of association, company stamp, share certs and all that stuff. You need a Commissioner for Oaths for one of the forms, can't remember which one. That normally only costs €12 or so. I think they will do that part for free if you can call in to them in person.

I formed a company about 6 weeks ago with an accountant, but when I put my company name in to this crowd to see if my business name is available - it say YES !!

I did the same at cro.ie and it came back with my details.

Something is not right with this crowd.

Just done a company name availability search with guinness and irish distillers and they are both available !!

Either this is dodgy or some of out biggest companies are pretty negligent........

I've used www.getregistered.ie and they were great value and very helpful. No automated responses. Dealt with all my issues individually. I recognised the girls name when i rang up and as far as i know she used to be one of the managers in Company Setup (mentioned above). Geri Dinneen or something. Anyway i'd recommend her. Very professional.

There are three answers to your question, really:

    1) The search appears to be defective. "boards.ie limited" is a registered company name according to the Companies Registration Office website, but is shown as being available on registeracompany.ie, so that's broken. The same is true for every other limited company name I tried.

    2) What they don't tell you (and neither incidentally does the FAQ on GEDI's site) is that simply registering a business name gives you no rights to actually use that name if it's confusingly similar to a registered trade mark, or if it's likely to lead to an unfair association with a well-known brand. So even if I could register my company as "Original and Delicious Guinness Stout Limited", I would be stopped in a heartbeat (by the owners of the "Guinness" registered trade mark) if I set up a pub with that name on a sign above the door.

The second reason is the real reason that Guinness and Irish Distillers may not care much that one can apparently register a business name which looks like one of their brands: the possession of a trade mark registration gives them an absolute right to stop anyone from using their registered trade marks in the course of trade on the same or similar goods, whether that might be "Jameson" or "Guinness" or the harp logo used on Guinness products, irrespective of whatever business names you might have registered.

So apart from choosing a name for your company and incorporating the company you need to satisfy yourself that you are actually free to use the names and logos you have selected for your products or services. This is a question on which a registered trade mark agent can advise you. (See http://www.aptma.ie/firms.htm for a list of specialist firms advising on trade marks and patents.)

The CRO would probably query a request for an LTD that was too similar to an existing one. We had to append "internet" to our request, which is why we ended up with such a mouthful!

If you're interested in trademarks talk to the patents office in Kilkenny. They're very helpful
