F*cking nazi parents! What's the whole point of doing the Junior Cert if you won't get money?

The benefit of your education? A benchmark to see how well you are progressing in school? A sense of accomplishment? :D

Don't think I'll be getting anything... money hasn't really come into my mind tbh.

Already got my "present" in the form of around €250 worth of clothes straight after the JC, as apparently it was the effrot that mattered, not the results.

    Woah. O_o

I don't think my entire wardrobe cost that much.

Meh, I grew and pretty much needed new everything. It had to be done sometime soon, so why not pass it off as a present for study?

At most I'll be getting a pat on the back.

Money never entered my head tbh.

Nah, I didn't buy Hilfigger or any of that, just 2/3 t-shirts, 2 jumpers, shorts, shirt...

I hope my last post didn't make me sound ungrateful. Re-reading it made it look like a whine.

I was only joking with you. People should learn that 90% of the things I say are unserious.

I got an xbox after my JC results came out :D (sat mine in 2002 [I think?])

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I'm getting a laptop and going clothes shopping after the results come out. I still have to check out which lappie I'm getting though, I want me something nice.

i hope you get good results for your parents sake.

Oh the laptop has nothing to do with results, it depended on the work I put in. I wanted new clothes anyway and seeing as I have a half day tomorrow my mum said she'd take me out shoppping then, again, nothnig to do with results, though I uppose she'll be in a more generous mood the better I do.

    Fair enough.

    Don't mind me....i'm just jealous. :o

    ****ing hell..

    A laptop and clothes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

    The Parents were desperate to get me to study...I badly want(ed) a laptop...it's a win/win situation :)

Now to look me up some acers *rubs thighs*

Oh and the clothes aren't really *for* the JC, I just need Winter stuff and I'm geting them tomorrow.

    Are you serious?

My brother was going to get me a Strat for five A's and then he promised me a bass also if I got 9 A's, but that promise has sort of died now. My dad said I'll be getting 'a substantial present', but when I sceptically challenged his interpretation of good and mine, he said it would be my kind of good, so I reckon it's a new harp or something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

How didn't I know you played the Harp? And why would your BROTHER get you a (pretty expensive) JC present.

    Get an Alienware laptop!

    Go on ye ledgend! :P

Nah I saw a nice Acer that isn't too expensive if I buy from Germany, but now I'm thinking of getting a better one for gaming, though I can always game on my old computer...

erm,I'd say about 50 quid to go out with my friends tomorrow night!
and I'll be glad to get it!
the amount of money people get is mad!
my mam wanted to give me a certain amount for every homour, but I know she can't afford that,so I just said "give me enough to go out and save the big present for the Leaving ;) "

Because I never told you, and because my brother is 30, so he wants to 'encourage my education' and all that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I didn't know either of these things. Y'learn something new every day.

    Zilch. I would imagine.

People getting laptops and 100s of euros..I hope you studied for the junior and arent wasting your parents money.

Who knows though, I might get a congratulary card! :)

It's only the junior cert after all. Leaving cert may be different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,440 ✭✭✭✭Piste

I don't see how studying for the Junior or not makes it a waste of money. A good laptop is never a waste of money!

50 quid, enough to go out?

I'd manage with a tenner.

Going to The Flaming Lips in Manchester in November. Sorted :D

On the topic of Bulmers, has anyone told someone that they won't be drinking tomorrow night, and been met with a look of genuine horror? What's up with that?

No, it wasn't horror. It was more of a incredulous look, then a thoughtful look, THEN the look of horror swiftly followed by an outraged look.

    O__o

What amazed me most is the amount of times I was asked about it. And I don't think anyone asked me whether I think I'll do well or not.

I hate ignorant ****ers like that. I don't get much of it my school to be honest though.

My school sort of attracts people from bad neighbourhoods...

I don't have anything against people from bad neighbourhoods. I am myself. But most of them are dicks.

I can just picture the conversations tomorrow. (Well, Friday more like! :D )

    "So howja do?"
"Great, ended up getting my stomach pumped in the A&E."
"Aww, I only sexually abused a random woman on the street."
"You think THAT's bad? I didn't even puke."

I dont know what I'll be getting but i might get something for doing well. One of my friends is getting 50 euro for every B/A he gets. So he's now getting 350 euro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭Diarmsquid

I got around €150 when I did it last year. And my parents aren't the kind that would do that at all. I was thrilled, but a lot of it had to do with me doing a lot better than they (or I) were expecting.
    That lasted me ages..

My sister got me a cake, a bottle of champagne which I'm going to open with my friends on Saturday and a facial for some odd but nice reason. I got 50 in the post today from cousins and I'm going to probably get more later also.

Going to use success as a bargaining tool for so much though.

    I spent 30 of my 50 on...

    ...an Applied Maths book! :D

I figured it was an ideal way to spend money I got for good grades but my father was shocked when he heard and gave me another 30.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 735 ✭✭✭BlueSpiral

I got 50, but that was to be spent on the JC night.

I also won 16 euros and got given 20 euros for being cocky. :p And I'm not going to explain, but lets just say I've got a gamblin' problem now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,026 ✭✭✭Killaqueen!!!

Just about money and drinking on the junior night:

If you're parents gave you like 50euro just for the night..are they saying "go on buy some drink have a good time" because honestly, who's going to spend that much in one night. I bought 2 bottles of water when I was out totally to around 4euro. What else do they expect you to spend it on? Just wondering..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,016 ✭✭✭lilmissprincess

This is great! I'm basically getting everything I want so I'm going to milk it for till the end of the week before the magic wears off. At this rate I'll have saved up for inter-railing at the end of 6th year by Monday!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,586 ✭✭✭sock puppet

I got 100 euro off my mam and my dad will be giving me another 100. That makes 200.:D Much more than i expected. I might be able to afford that american strat now.

The joys of having divorced parents.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭Timans

    I got €150

    Couldn't believe it. I'm very grateful. Think I'll pre-order myself a Wii.

    Zelda + Wii = Happiness.
