Does anybody know of any way of checking whether a car has any outstanding finance on it? Looking at one at the moment and everything seems fine with it. However, I'd like to be sure the car is not on HP or anything like that before handing over any money.

Is there any registry that holds such details? Thanks.

    http://www.cartell.ie should do the trick.

    Also, from the AA site:

"It is also important to check that there is no Hire Purchase owed on the vehicle; this can be queried with the Hire Purchase Information Centre at 01 2600905."
