    My Laptop will not open lecture notes on blackboard. Do you have to have microsoft powerpoint or any other software installed ?

    Well if the files end in .ppt then they are powerpoint and you need powerpoint to view them. (Free viewer here). If you don't have MS Office installed then maybe the free Open Office is worth a look.

    If they end in .pdf, then they are pdf files (obviously) and Adobe Acrobat Reader will open them.
