Still no increase in speeds. With bitstream this means "competitors" are locked into the same speeds. Roll on LLU.

I thought they were dropping their 3Mbit to €39.99!

That would of course be too "cheap".

    Good news for some peepz...

If they were giving it away for free, I still couldn't get it  :D

They say in the press release that they have reduced the prices of business packages, but then they give no details. The price on their top 5m/bit package is ridiculous.

If anyone is interested, the wholesale prices have been announced too.

    1024/128 drops from €13.23 (€16.01) to €10.29 (€12.45)
    2048/256 drops from €19.10 (€23.11) to €13.15 (€15.91)
    3072/384 drops from €26.55 (€32.13) to €22.85 (€27.65)

    (VAT inclusive prices in brackets)

The wholesale price of the 2MB producs will be less than the current 1MB price.

The new prices come into effect on October 2nd.

Presumably we'll hear something from the other operators in the next few days?

Just for completeness sake, Wholesale Line Rental costs 17.98 plus VAT. So BT were paying eircom
€13.23+€17.98 = €31.21, (€37.76 including VAT), for their basic €35 "Broadband & Talk" bundled service.

I don't even want to think of the implications of that.

Are you sure of those numbers?

Still there should be price drops in the ~€5 range over the coming weks from the bitstream operators?

Untill there is real LLU only Eircom can make money out of ADSL. All the other operators are just trying to get a market share in the hope that someday it will be profitable. Or entice you user for more profitable voice calls (not much more though)

Yes. WLR costs the operator 90% of the retail price, or €17.98 plus VAT.

The source of the Bitstream price is linked in my earlier post.

As long as Eircom are charging end users €20.66 plus VAT for a service that they are wholesaling at €10.29 plus VAT, there is at least scope for other operators to make some money on Bitstream.

Of course, if all the other resellers compete against each other for the knowledgabe 25% that knows that you can get basic broadband for a tenner (plus line rental), and eircom scoops up the 75% who aren't aware of the options, then "the market" is not working properly!
