Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I want to clear the dust from the CPU in my laptop this weekend (Dell 5150, Dust causing power shut off ..... loooooong story)

Can anyone tell me if I can expect the heatsink to be glued directly to the chip or can everything be removed?

Has anyone in here done this before and what if any problems can I expect?

    Thanks in anticipation:)

there wont be any dust on your cpu as such, just clogging up the heatsink fans,so just buy some compressed air and let rip on the vents on the back or side of your laptop...

    Thanks for the quick response!:)
I have a can of compressed air, but when sprayed there is a small amount of water present. Is this usual do you know for a can of compressed air?! It was bought recently and certainly is only meant to be compressed air:confused:

Shake the can vigorously before spraying and hold the can upright always as when you tilt it or hold it upside down the liquid form gas escapes...so rotate your laptop and not the can and you should be fine!

You'd probably want to upgrade the BIOS as well if you have not already done so.

Use a vacuum cleaner first, cheaper than compressed air and you get a lot more air through, do both the inlet at the bottom and at the side/back
