I have http://uk.yahoo.com/ set as my home page and over the last few days it's taking ages to load, at least 2 or 3 minutes!

It's the same if I type in yahoo.com...
It's the same if I'm signed in or not...
If I change my homepage to Google it loads as usual.

Can anyone help, please? What could the problem be? I'm stumped! :o

(I'm on Clearwire wireless broadband BTW)

    thanks for any advice!

There's nothing wrong with that tracroute.

Do you get the same delays going to http://ie.yahoo.com or http://217.146.186.51 ?

    Very strange...

Could it be some sort of virus?? Though I did a full scan and checked for updates and did a spyware scan aswell.

I suppose I could change my homepage but it's handy for others in the house who use Yahoo mail. (And I can't bear the US Yahoo!)

It's unlikely. It's actually more likely to be a problem with the adserver that Yahoo are using - the page may not display properly until the ads are loaded.

You could always try the Australian one, if you want non-US english language home page!
    http://au.yahoo.com

By the way, have you tried an aternative browser? And have you cleared your browsers cache?

Alternative browser means go immediately to www.GetFirefox.com and download and install it. Try using it instead of IE - it has numerous features that you like as you get to use them, and it is generally considered more secure than IE.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools/Internet Options, and under "Temporary Internet Files" in the middle of the page, click on "Delete Files". This will clean out the cache which is probably cluttered up and doing more harm than good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,721 ✭✭✭sudzs

    Thanks for that!

Though I think I'll stick with Internet Explorer for now... maybe I'll get more adventerous at a later date! ;)

I've cleared the files but no difference to Yahoo. :(

And I clicked on you link for the Aussie Yahoo and guess what... slow as a wet week aswell!

You're being adventurous by sticking with the less than secure IE. You be much less adventurous, and much less likely to have to sort out problems with Firefox.

Even if you don't use it for anything else, download Firefox now and see if you can open your Yahoo home page. That will tell you whether you have a networking problem or a browser problem. It won't take much more time to do that test than to post another message here.
