Fecking Hell!! I've finally cracked the TXT speak:D but I doubt if a text speaker would understand that lot!!:D
It was mean't to be taken light heartedly especially as I am one of AOL's customers!!:) and also a bit long in the tooth for text speaking and not Irish educated!!

If you use the call centre job as a jumping off point to a better position within the company then you can go quite far.

Contrary to popular belief there is ample opportunity for advancement within the company and people with talent often progress rapidly through the company.

I worked phones there through one method or another for 18 months both part time during college and full time after I left WIT.

While there I progressed rapidly through the various positions on offer, was then offered a job for AOL in Dublin (thanks to a certain exemplary supervisor I worked under at the time who took very good care of my career) where I have had rapid progression to my current role, which is quite a unique one within both the European and American business.

Although as has been said I probably wouldn't have lasted 18 months on front line support, however AOL as a company is not bad to work for.

Edit: Just to add if any of you guys work for Liam C you're very lucky people. One of the best supervisors and generally understanding, enthusiastic and encouraging people I have ever come across in a business environment. If you're talking to him tell him Niall from Dublin sends his regards.

Have to agree with you about Liam C. One of the nicest and genuine people in a management position in AOL. No bull**** about him at all. Knows his job and knows how to be a "person" as well. Of all the supervisors to pass through he is probably the only one i couldn't have a bad word to say about.

i've been working in aol for the last 3 years. i think its ok, i don't take calls anymore though so my opinion may be a bit bias. Even saying that, i think the calls is the handiest job you can get, don't have to stress about work outside of working hours plus you get to sit down and play on the internet. . . talking to people = much better than lifting bricks in the cold

Hard to know, CPW are having awful problems rolling out their LLU Broadband product, considering AOL UK has more LLU lines then anyone else it should help their setup.

Potentially Waterford could help alot with their customer service problems as it has alot of experience.

  • Registered Users Posts: 319 ✭✭Jaeger

Should we compare the number of functioning LLU circuits to the number of rolled out LLU circuits? I'd say most of what you deal with day in day out is LLU related @ cab.

Didn't know that this many people from AOL were on boards.

Still working in tech, just over 2 years. Honestly have never had much of a problem with abuse, rarely get it. 90% of people on the phone respond in kind. If you've been a customer yourself and had to deal with tech support or maybe your parents have had to maybe you'll understand. Anyone who's too just out to be difficult to deal with gets released, and you move onto someone who might appreciate the help a bit more without missing a step.

Going Demented is there 6 years...? Now who might you be... :)

As a punter of AOL's, I am rather worried about this.
AOL has been in the business far longer than CFW and the CFW record of supplying Joe Bloggs with the internet has been disasterous to date.
Are they now going to 'cock up' what AOL is supplying to their current members?

I for one for many years advised people not to touch AOL with a barge pole and it was a known fact that if you installed AOL software on your computer you ended up with a "friend for life", but things have changed and I have been one of their customers now for 2 years and now recommend others to join up to it.

Will I still be a member of AOL in 12 months time?

I can't imagine them breaking existing working services. And anyway, I see CPW as buying into the brand, rather than buying into the physical operation of broadband services.

Worked in tech, was a good laugh. You gotta be able for the job because it gets boring.
As for the support agents, they were great, knew wat they were talking about! Except for those with vitamin deficiencies, they make ya want to have scurvy!! :p
As for the supervisors, I reckon a lot of them don't know what a modem is and dont understand the concept that 1 minute over your break is perfectly normal and not an instance that deserves "HR" meetings.
I didnt have a problem with Liam C at all. Thought he was ok. I left because it wasnt the job for me and my supervisor "may" have had some psychological problem as to think that escortin people to the door and grinnin at them while doing it was normal while she tried to get them fired!! State of her car! And she's still drivin it!
Anyways AOL aint as bad as some jobs and its a bit of a laugh too, but the sups think they're secretary of state and ur the enemy, thats why don't become a supervisor unless you are able to manage people of all different personality types but the ones you never can manage are know it alls who have fans at their desk, and claim they didnt get enough vitamins! Most of tech know which "fictional" character Im referring to.
