I rang today to transfer my insurance from my car which I have traded in for my wife's new car, to the new car.

The old car was a 2000 ford focus 1.6, the new car is a seat ibiza 1.4.
Now these bunch of chancers *cough*quinn direct*cough* tried to tell me that a newer car with more airbags, better brakes, smaller engine, and an alarm....would cost me MORE, an extra €42 per month. Are they the biggest bunch of bandits or what!

I'm glad I don't need them anymore once my wife sorts out the insurance for herself.

That is crazy. I guess you will be moving insurance companies

I would imagine a new Ibiza would be worth 15k, the 200 0 Focus would be worth in or around 8k. They are probably taking into account the write off factor in a crash as it's unlikely to get robbed nowadays with imobilizers and the like. Still an extra 500 a year is too much, a hundred or two would be plenty.

As everyone who knows me on here will know I havent a good word to say about Quinn, they are notorious for giving you terrible policys and no paying up when you have a crash etc, or youhaving to pay for first 1 grand for the crach

Anyway Im with FBD and my whole family are as well and we have never had a problem, when I got my own policy out they where only 100 euro extra than quinn with an open policy on the car(Quinn wasnt open) and at least you have a good policy and peace of mind.

The only problem is that I have heard they have started to cut there prices to try and get more and more young driver so this will mean will have more accidents and will start to drive up the price. Could have to move soon:eek:

The customer agrees to the voluntary excess when they take out the policy, and in most cases its only €250 anyway, not a grand. Most insurers have a similar excess.
I've heard the same stories about quinn trying to weasel out of paying out a few years ago, but in the last couple of years I've been hearing the opposite a lot more - i.e. they apparently are quick to settle claims now.

Seat Ibiza is a favourite of the boy racers, that's why Quinn load it. Try get insured on a 1.4 Honda Civic, and you'll see the same thing.

Had a crash in my car recentley, My parked car was hit my an unknown driver, no body seen it and he just drove off, had to claim from my comp policy, Excess was only €65 with AXA

Sorry for getting off topic !!

Did you lose your no-claims discount for it?

The cheapest insurance I got was online via Quoteline, nt changed to Quote Me (www.quoteme.ie I think). Hibernian was the best for me for 3 years. Then, by chance, I came across Quoteline. My renewal last year went from €842 with Hibernian to €632 with Allianz via Quoteline. (full comp + windscreen cover on a '99 1.4i Xsara Coupé, 5 yrs NCB, 27 yrs old).

Wouldn't touch Quinn or Axa from quotes they gave me.

    Seanie.

Gf (24) bought a 1.4 Alfa 146, 1999, her first car, has had her provisional since March, first time insurance was 950 euro (tpf+t) in that car. With Quinn, inc windscreen cover and a 190eu excess.
I thought that was alright for a learner in a 1.4.

You could probably double that for a male provisional driver.

I have rarely seen the new Ibiza been used as a boy racer car

    you'd be right too.

I was quoted 1800/1900 (can't remember which) for tpf+t on a 1.5l Mazda 323F with Quinn Direct. Hope to change from them once my year is up though, gonna try and make use of Benchmark and see if they can get me a cheaper quote when the time comes.

That doesn't make a difference. Quinn, specialising in young drivers' insurance, tend to load the cars which boy racers traditionally like to buy, regardless of year or engine.

If you're over 23, you'll get a much better deal with someone else (though not necessarily a cheaper deal).

Last year with Quinn was given a policy for €3600, madness but needed it and nobody else would insure me....its a bloody 1.2 2000 punto basic model on TPFT for gods sake, prov licence only 18 at the time and no NCB so was to be expected
NOW this year they sent me our a renewal of €2100....big drop, havent had an accident !

BUT....i went on to the website and got quoted €1902, called them up and they adjusted straight away.

Have a mate who works there and they are quick in settling claims which keeps the costs down the quicker its settled, thus they make more money, but he said that 90% of the accident he works with are where the policyholder is 19 or under,
So even though i paid a mental price last year it really is justified!

I say more power to Quinn! the other buggers wouldnt even quote me, so f*ck them! Someones gotta insure me!

I heard quinn direct come out to people when there is a claim with some cash and try and pay the people off there and then as it saves them a fortune as the man days that would say.

It saved Quinn money because the time involved is reduced, but they are always fair and sometimes more than fair with the cash they pay out, so it saves time for the person involved too!

Quote is higher as its a new car and worth more than your previous one. Personally I think Quinns are one of the cheapest around, i'm 28, male and i got a quote recently of €1600 on a first provisional on a 1.3, not bad considering the next quote up from that i got from AA was just under €3600

Exactly. If the rest of them were competitive to young males it'd be a different story but Quinn have this market sewn up.
