Dismal rates of interest on Deposit Accounts

Ok so I have received my annual interest rate or else my quarterly rate on my every day bank account from the bank. It was something like 57 cents. It was something like 57 cents. Is there any better rates of interest out there for an every day account? There seems to be no competition in the market on interest rates for these accounts. Why is this the case? Surely if one bank offered much bigger interest rates every year then people would switch banks.
