i see the last post was many years ago but wondered if anyone had any new ideas.. im new to kilkenny and work slightly different hours to the norm.. clubs and societys always an option but all ideas welcome.. female by the way and late 20's if it makes any difference. Thanks : )

    Hiya!

I too have just arrived in Kilkenny - my fourth week and have yet to meet anyone socially... this city seems to be a disaster for making new friends unless you already have some... I think as a woman it is worse because you can't really go sit in the pub on your own and hope to find a friend! :S I am in my mid twenties if you feel like going for a drink one of the days during the week let me know! :) Always looking forward to making new friends! I think the clubs do not restart until September unfortunately! :(

    Welcome to Kilkenny anyway! :)

Hi - also new to KK (since Feb) - will also second the earlier comments about it being a hard community to 'break in to' ...

Delighted to hear there's a bookclub. But, seriously, how does one access this information???

I've googled, read events guides, contacted various offices and organisations, even read the 'People' ... but is there just some sort of 'local knowledge' floating around in the ether that says 'book club, langtons, first wed of the month, 8 oclcock'?

I'd LOVE to hear from anyone else who's had success with sniffing out the elusive clubs and societies. I've been trying to track down an art, drawing, or silversmithing evening class since I got here, with no luck... so much for the 'arts capital' - even Mullingar had an arts centre and regular classes! Not that I'd recommend moving to Mullingar.

    [End of rant].

Evening classes begin in September, theres some really interesting courses there like 'family history' or 'cooking from around the world'.
Do something easy that way you can socialise more during the course.
Do a few courses different nights, and don't forget to suggest going for a drink after with your new friends:)

    Heres last years list

Ask in the library, - I know they were trying to get a craft club going. And there's a knitting club there on Tues evenings I think. The Library would have details of all the book clubs too I'd imagine.
