Wind seems to have died right down here in SW Cork.
I can hear it a little in the trees, the rain earlier was the heaviest I have seen since I have been here, had a lake outside for about half an hour!

Out in Tramore myself, wasnt as expected. Over-hyped perhaps? Got maybe an hour or two (at max) of heavy wind. Been calming since 9 and hardly anything now. Same in Waterford - drove through.

    Supprised!

Winds on the increase again here after veering to the SW.
    Pressure at 991.4mb and rising.

when the pressure goes up what does this mean

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,033 ✭✭✭Snowbie

The pressure is filling or the low pressure centre is moving away.Pressure is lowest to the centre of the system so when it moves off the pressure would rise. The pressure gradient is tightest near the centre of the circulation ie:stronger winds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 118 ✭✭charlie@w.d

so if we got an unusually low pressure doest this mean that the weather would be very very bad and vice versa

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

That gust of 59 knots at Casement is highest Sept gust since 1973 and the 66 knots at Malin Head is highest Sept gust since 1983.
