How to embed a video witihin a webpage

Hi,

I would like to put 10 to 30 seconds of a movie on my website. (small size)

The movie is on a DVD.

How should I go about it?

I have Flash 8. I assume I will need another software in order to edit the movie and possibly another one to import the dvd ... I'm not to sure, hence the question here

I found the following:

The process of making your videos available on the Web can be broken down into five steps:
1 Record the footage with an analog or (preferably a) digital camcorder.
2 Transfer the video to a computer using a analog-to-digital converter (for VHS tapes) or a FireWire cable (for miniDV and Digital8 camcorders).
3 Edit the video to remove the parts you don't want to keep using video editing software such as Pinnacle Studio (PC) or iMovie (Mac).
4 Export the video into a web-friendly format such as QuickTime, RealMedia, or Windows Media.
5 Place the video on a Web site, a CD, or a DVD.

I guess step 5 is covered.
How about step 3 and 4 ? Is ther a free soft I can use to edit my DVD and save it to a format that is Web compatible?

professionals? Louie I haven't a clue what you're talking about.
I am not trying to remake Lord of The Rings.

Anyway.. The way I am going to do it is:
step 1
convert DVD to AVI
step 2
use virtualdubmod to capture the one scene I need.
step 3
embed the video into my webpage (using leftofcentre's tip for ex)
