What would you experts recommend as the best mobo, cpu and gfx card combination for a failry future proof gaming rig. I'm a bit rusty on the latest and greatest kit out there. I read about DirectX-10, SLi, X-fire, Core Duo, AM2... where to start.

i'd echo what elites said. get a "decent" gfx card for now and splash out next year when we have some proper stuff to play with as far as dx10 is concerned.
