    Dunno what's with all this repeated talk of "she was a fine woman in her day" is all about though, looking at that picture.

    Perhaps the picture doesn't do her justice.

    Local legend has it that she was an extremely attractive woman in her youth. A guy she was engaged to died, and she never coped with his death, and gradually lost her mind.

    She hasn't been on the streets of Galway for several years as she's been in a nursing home, IIRC.

    Also, as someone said earlier, she was supposed to have been a very decent lady.

    Her death marks the end of an era in Galway city centre. Taafes building is one of the very few that has not yet fallen to brand name shops, and that was down to her.
