    Hi guys

does anyone here know where I can get a dalmation pup. My 10 year olds father promised her one and was meant to have put a deposit on one but whatever happened he is now unable to get it. The poor child doesnt know yet and will be heartbroken. Does anyone know where I can get one as soon as is possible?

Not sure, mabey someone else can advise but whatever you do in the rush to get one make sure it's not from a puppy farmer or backyard breeder. Too many chancers out there waiting to prey on eager people.

you'd be better off adopting a dog from a pound or shelter that really needs a home, their just as good pets as any purebred dog and theres plenty of pups if thats what you're looking for, a dog is a dog really, no matter where s/he comes from..

Don't be hasty - the child will get over it if she has to wait an extra week.
Be prepared for hard work - they are not the easiest breed to own and would certainly need to have some good and firm ( nice !!!! ) training from an early age.
Be aware of the congenital deaf gene that is common in dallies too !

Dont have to go to pound, it might be high up on some peoples morale list of good things to do but if you want a purebred dalmation get one, its your choice!!!

My girlfriend has a dalmation and he is the most loving dog i have ever met with bags of personality. Needs a big garden and exercise and can be naughty if not trained properly, good idea to have another dog for company if its going to be left alone during day or anything (one dog might be a big enough commitment though).

If you are willing to travel iam sure you will find one easily enough, often see them advertised in paper, can meet the people and check out that everything is ok and above board and take a look at parents too...

The Petsireland one sounds nice; wonder why someone didn't want her ):

If you don't take her, don't go to ads in papers - they're often from cruel puppy farms, and you won't get a pup that's been reared by her mammy and is properly socialised. Go to the Irish Kennel Club and find the dalmation section, and phone the person, talk to them about breeders and who has puppies and so on.

Thanks guys for the replies. I rang the childs father last night ( we are not together) and I have told him to explain to our daughter about the situation regarding the dog, which he did. She was actually very mature about it and they are going to go to the pound this weekend to see if they can find a suitable dog. I dont think he realised that a dalmation was a lot of work and he really doesnt have the ample space that a large dog would require so I am hoping that perhaps he will try to find a smaller dog in need of a good home from the pound. Personally speaking I would rather that he get one from a rescue centre as I believe these poor animals deserve a chance. Thanks for your help.
