Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

OK. Quite simple. Do you know how the handicap system works?

Do you know how you get 0.1 back? Do you know the difference between a non counting competition and reduction only?

Do you know what the different categories are?

Do you know how a CSS and buffer zones are calculated?

Let's see how much we all know!

I'm the same, I joined a club in the summer and im still learning alot.
I played a competition two weeks ago in my club with two members and they didn't know at all how their handicaps are adjusted.

I was handicap secretary of my club for 5 years. The majority of golfers have a lot of misconceptions about the system. In fact, the only ones who really understood the handicap system were the bandits!

Which raises my next question - who is to blame for the ignorance?

    Players
    Clubs
    GUI/ILGU
    CONGU

Personally I feel the clubs should have handicap and rules nights every year for members.

i think it falls in between clubs and members, i could have looked it up whenever i wanted, likewise, it's be harmless to give a booklet on handicap rules to all new members that join

certain clubs don't provide enough info. If there is such a thing as a concise information booklet it should be posted on the club's message board and it's then up to the members to work it out after that.
But, rather than spend time and resources on ensuring members know the handicap rules, they'd be better served making efforts to weed out the bandits, which IMO is a bigger problem.

I also find it very difficult to find the info I'm looking for on the CONGU website.

Not really too worried about the ins and outs of the system. I know about the .1 add on etc.

But I do have one question thats been bugging me. If say I'm off 17 (which I am at the moment) and I score 26/27 points - I know I'm getting .1 added on. If I score 36 points (playing exactley to my h'cap) - handicap probably stays the same. However at what point(s) do I not play to my handicap, but I still don't get .1 added on - If I score 35 I'm not playing to my h'cap, but I'm not far off it. Is the cut off 35, 34, 32 or what?

If you score is less than, but within 3 points of the CSS for that competition, you won't get .1 back.

and if you were in category 4 it would be within 4 shots below css (called your comfort zone) - category 2 within 2 shots etc
