I have read that dobermans can be prone to 'Bloat' and I did not think much of it until I read somewhere on the net that a 10 year old Alsatian had died overnight from it seems a sudden onset of bloat.

Can someone explain what bloat is, what causes it, how you would spot the symptoms and how to guard against it and prevent it.

I'm a bit paranoid about bloat as I've 2 dobie x's that gulp their food & insist on running around like lunatics after eating.

Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is also known as "bloat," "stomach torsion," or "twisted stomach. GDV is an extremely serious condition, and should be considered a life-threatening emergency when it occurs. Dogs can die of bloat within several hours. Even with treatment, as many as 25-33% of dogs with GDV die.

Feeding on a height is more likely to cause it Budgie.
