You want high SNR and low attenuation. I'm afraid that you've got a pretty crappy line there.

    Are you on a 1Mb, 2Mb or 3Mb package?

3 megs but I am well aware I aint gettting close to it!

what are CRC errors? and can this be fixed? could it be a wiring issue? or unlikely?

    Your line won't support a 3Mbps signal.

The Line Attentuation figure is a measure of how weak the signal has become - basically the longer the line, the higher the attenuation. And you've got high (but within the limits) attenuation.

CRC errors are "cyclic reduncancy check" errors - an error detection method that indicates that the modem has noticed errors in data that it has received on the line.

It could be a "bad wiring" issue, or it could simply be a "long wire" issue. Do any of your neighbous have DSL? If they all have high attenuation numbers, then you're just too far from the exchange to get a 3Mbps signal.

If he could move his line to a country where ADSL2 was available, maybe.

Of course if his line was in a country where ADSL2 was available, maybe it would be in better shape for use on "regular" ADSL.
