Just to state suburban car sales ltd is a completly different company to suburban auto`s we are located on mountplesant ave rathmines. We are completly seperately owned fron suburban autos who trade in Harolds cross. This was stated in the Irish Indepdent.
    Thanks for that.
Just for those who didn't get it:
Suburban Car Sales = nice :)
    Suburban Autos != nice :(

Its unfortunate that you are both located on Mt. Plesant Ave and have similar names.

I bought my current car off Suburban car sales (a 06 Ford Focus) only a few weeks ago, and I asked was this the same company that was convicted of clocking cars (I was feeling very brave!!), but this suburban car sales is not the same as the other one (in Harolds cross) (I checked this ten times before I bought the car) - you have no fear of buying of this crowd!! My dad who is a solicitor also checked out the ownership of these companies and they are totally separate (you are able to check this out in the companies office in Dublin Castle) The bad guy  is Suburban Autos in Harolds Cross owned by Mr Webb (who was convicted in October in court for clocking) and the good people :) Suburban car sales is owned by Mr Smith on Mount Pleasant Avenue. This has been clarified by the Irish Independent, the guy I was dealing in there was a salesman called Derek. Lovely guy, genuine.

I dealt with the same Derek. Never again!

They are nearly all at game, there are several "Instrument Calibration technicians" around the city and country including a well known one in a garage about two miles outside Loughrea on the Portumna Road that specialise in it. They charge from e150 for a Ford and up to e500 for an E series Mercedes. They know that their devious job can add thousands to the price of the car.

I trust absolutly no one in the motor trade. A competent mechanic can tell if a car has done more miles than stated, some simple clues would include, wear on the seats, pedals, brake disk wear, worn paint, tell tail marks around the dash, i.e. screws missing, steering play, screw driver marks, dust / finger marks inside clock, digits not aligning in the clock, service records, I was looking at a Punto from a dealer in Celbridge a month ago, the fool even left the clock disconnected!!. They are out there. The sooner they print mileage on registration books and doe/nct records the better.

They print em on the NCT certs, which is why I keep all of mine to show prospective buyers.

Saw this one on ebay and thought the alignment was very fishy

    http://i3.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/91/bc/f06e_1.JPG

The ad says the car was reg'd in 1991 but not used until 1995 coz it was in the Toyota showroom! Very hard to believe that a car from 1991 (or 1995) has only done 37000.

Thats one of the first give aways I mentioned, also theres probably dust visible inside the clock. Digital clocks are more sophisticated and involve computers and some can be docked without even opening the dash! A Technically legal scam they can get away with is to completly replace the clock in the dash, they can claim he origional was faulty!!!. Its been done on motorbikes.

I've never seen a DOE cert so i can't really comment. I don't have my NCT cert here but i'm 99.99% sure its on there.

its printed on the top right of the white NCT report, not on the cert itself AFAIK

should always ask for these reports when buying a s/h irish car.

This information should be placed up on the NCT website free of charge for any buyer to see. its the least they could do for the money they charge us for a test.

    Its meaningless.

My car has over 120k on the clock but the NCT cert says 80k due to it being clocked at the time and me not knowing about it.

Can see where you are coming from, however if someone had service history and NCT certs with milage chances are it's a legit car. I know of alot of dealers that when you buy a car from them it's sold with NCT pass guaranteed and they actually bring your car in for the NCT and it passes fine, NCT certs goes walkabout but disc is put on windscreen. There also seems to be a certain "click" in the NCT centres when I have dropped cars in where dealers know the testers by name and all seems a little too brown envelopy.

Although the NCT/DOE take note of the mileage when you bring a car / van in for testing, will they not give out those details if you are a prospective buyer looking for that information?

No, and they make no stateent on whether the recorded milegae is genuine or not.
