Anyone know the actual cut off points for the last 6 years where no more new Irish cars were registered in that year. eg 2000 was somewhere around 103k or so, 2001 was 80+k etc? Is there a published list anywhere?

(I presume you mean in Dublin only!)
2,000 was somewhere around 105,***. I registered a vehicle in the third week of December that year and it was 104,*** but I saw others over 105 before the end of the year.

(Oops - sorry I didn't see Dublin in the title until after posting)

Based on highest reg numbers on our system they would be around:

    2000 - 102,000
    2001 - 88,000
    2002 - 78,000
    2003 - 72,000
    2004 - 74,000
    2005 - 83,000
2006 - Up to 78,700 + from vehicles registered yesterday.

Might be 1 or 2 thousand reg'd in Ireland after the above numbers as fleet companies don't do many cars in the last 1/4 of the year but the government quite often reg loads in the last couple of months. Then all the imports that get reg'd go on top of these so be a few thousand more of them.

SIMI website might give the numbers registered per year, but not sure if that would break it down by county.

Check out the CSO website. They have figures on cars licensed for the first time for every county.

    look up cartell.ie
do a bit of trial and error with the reg numbers, you should be able to find it down to the last reg after about 10-15 guesses

    Good thinking! The highest '00 I found was a Lexus IS200 00D110196

Obviously as cars are still being imported, this number will go up further
