the responsbility for motivating the players and getting them to play with the team, where they play, what they do in that position under particular circumstances, what circumstances to defend and attack, who to mark, who to watch out for etc all lies with the manager and he clearly hasn't done his job. I know the players out there arent the best but they are better then this. They look like they haven't a clue what they're meant to be doing. No organisation whatsoever. Thats the managers job.
