Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. This is actually comical. We'll be lucky to qualify for anything in the next 10 years the way this is going.

    Absolute disgrace.

A few changes and we'd be so much better.

McGeady has been a bright spark tonight.

Jaysis, Dunne sent off as well

Staunton has to resign after this. Most disgraceful performance Ive seen in 20 years of watching Ireland play.

No point in Staunton going, it's the team that's brutal.
Apart from Duffer and Given, we have no world class players on this team.

Where is our 'Talismatic' captain Robbie Keane.
Himself and Clinton Morrison arent fit to play Sunday league.
10 goals conceded i our last 3 matches, that more than we conceded in the whole of the last campaign.

At least we have Wednesday for us the Irish fans to vent our anger and frustration at Irish football.

I fully expect to see ringing boos and chants of get stan out throughout the game..

I really really cannot believe what i am witnessing

Stan has only had a few matches, Jol is different altogether.

Let's give Stan at least 5 more matches before we call for his head.

Can't blame Staunton, he's still goinf through post-traumatic stress from being held up by a plastic gun in the notorious crime blackspot that is Portmarnock

What in the name of god are you talking about ? Is this a bit of overreaction maybe ? It's a loss, there were players unavailable, live with it and look forward to the next game.

Even the rte.ie matchtracker is disgusted!
GOAL! Cyprus 5 Ireland 2. Paddy Kenny makes a fantastic save to deny Constandinou. However, Charalambidis follows up to slot home his second goal after coming on as a substitute. This is embarassing.

Hey, lets not turn into the English tabloid media, calling for the boss to go after just a few matches in charge.

Stan is the man, let's get behind him.

It's going to be a slow process.

    It's a loss?

    Are you joking?

This is the worst night in Irish football for decades decades

We have time we have only played 2 qualifiers and the one next week

We have time to get new management in place.. we should beat San marino
in november with even this team so we have a few months for the FAI to roll and for a new management team to put in place.

There is no rebuilding. we have gotten 100 fold worse since Staunton arrived.

We must stop the rot and stop it TONIGHT

I cannot get my head around this one at all, we seems to be totally dis-interested and the "defence" is the worst I have ever seen in green.
Our B team would defend better than these clowns!!

We are missing players but these guys are nearly all playing in the PL for gods sake!!
But a defence who has o'shea and that muppet O'Brien is goin to leak.

What we will do on Wed night is worrying!
But when we don't have the players, we don't have them!

1900: GOAL Cyprus 5-2 Republic of Ireland
Constantinos Charalambidis extends the lead for Cyprus, slotting home a rebound after Paddy Kenny makes a brilliant point-blank save.

This is turning into an embarrassing afternoon for manager Steve Staunton.

Let's all e-mail TV3 now, info@tv3.ie and tell them it's their fault for this embarassing result.

Czech Rep must be pissing themselves with laughter tonight,

Man of Match goes to Aidan mcGeady - according to Brian Kerr.

    Why not a Cypriot??

agreed. look at our first xi

Kenny - championship player shouldnt be there but no choice
finnan - arguably the best rb in the league
    o'brien - disgraceful player
    dunne - solid prem defender
o'shea - how he gets into any utd or ireland team amazes me
mcgeady - unproven at intl level but always plays well for celtic
    kilbane - useless
ireland - unproven at intl level but performing well in the pl
duff - great lw needs a good team around him
keane - one of the best strikers in the league - a perfect footballer according to moratti
morrison - shouldnt ever play for us - championship level

even with the weakness in there it boggles the mind how we can perform this poorly. look at teams like bolton, wigan etc who have mediocre squads but the management brings the best out of them and makes sure tactically they are always spot on.

in the end i put the blame on the manager.

This is very bad for us, not just the obvious embarassment with tonights result but what it means for the future.
We're now going to slide further down the world rankings, finishing even 3rd or 4th in the group now looks like being difficult, which will give us more difficult draws for future world cup qualifiers & euro championships.
Young up and coming players, that might also have Welsh/English/Scottish/NI "grandmothers" are going to be less likely to declare for us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,072 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

I dont think this can really be compared to the normal sitution of a slow start for a manager, this has been terrible from a man who should never have been in there in the first place anyway! I think we can unanimously agree he wasn't even in the top 10 of ANYBODYS possible, realistic options for Manager. I thought it was ok with Bobby being in there, it made it not too bad as i was expecting bobby to be basically calling everything, which would have been greand, but with him out of commission, Stan has nothing. We're trusting our coutries team entirely to the former wallsall waterboy.

If anyone can pick an Irish man of the match out of that they desevre better than a pair of tickets to the Czech game, why not a week in Baghdad or something
