Seven rescued off Co Clare coast

Seven members of a sub-aqua club have been rescued off the Co Clare coast.

The incident occurred near George's Head, Kilkee, when the boat they were using overturned in high seas.

The seven, who are members of the Mullingar Sub-aqua Club were plucked from the sea 20 minutes later by the Kilkee Inshore Lifeboat and another dinghy which was in the area.

A spokesman for the coastguard service said weather conditions in the area were rough at the time and the divers were very fortunate to have been wearing life jackets.

He said he understood the semi-rigid inflatable dinghy was overturned by a very large wave.
